WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has admitted responsibility for the 9/11 attacks and a catalog of other terrorist acts, according to an edited transcript of a tribunal at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

"I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z," Mohammed said Saturday through a U.S. military representative at the American base.

The transcript -- released Wednesday -- lists operations Mohammed acknowledges responsibility for, including Richard Reid's attempted shoe bombing of an airliner over the Atlantic, the Bali, Indonesia, nightclub bombing and the 1993 World Trade Center attack. (Read transcript (PDF))

Mohammed also claims responsibility for surveying the Panama Canal for an attack to destroy it and surveying suspension bridges and high-rises in New York and Chicago, Illinois, to bring them down as well.

Mohammed takes responsibility for 29 operations, the transcript shows. Another claim is redacted from the public version. Mohammed also said he is partially responsible for an assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II while he was visiting the Philippines.

Mohammed likens himself to a revolutionary George Washington in the transcript, although the document's verbatim translation isn't always clear. (Watch why Mohammed compares himself to Washington Video)

"If now we were living in the Revolutionary War and George Washington he being arrested through Britain," it reads. "For sure he, they would consider him enemy combatant."
Mohammed: Sorry I killed kids

He made no apologies for what he has done, but he did express remorse for the death of children in the September 11 attacks.

"I don't like to kill people," he said. "I feel very sorry they been killed kids in 9/11."

Transcripts of two other detainees considered "high-value" by the U.S. government -- Abu Faraj al-Libi (transcript (PDF)) and Ramzi Bin al-Shibh (transcript (PDF)) -- were also issued Wednesday. Their hearings were held Friday. The three are part of a group of 14 detainees once held in secret CIA prisons but moved to Guantanamo Bay by President Bush in September.

All three hearings were held at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo.

The three-member military panel hearings, unlike similar hearings in the past, were closed to the media and to the detainees' lawyers because of fears the detainees might divulge classified information, according to Pentagon officials.

Officials have said the hearings would last between two and three hours each, but it could take days or weeks to know what transpired, because the findings must be approved by higher military authorities.

The 14 detainees have been given military advisers but they are offering no legal assistance. Detainees are also given only an unclassified summary of the evidence against them but are allowed to have witnesses called in from out of the country to testify in their favor.

The hearings, called combatant status review tribunals, determine whether a detainee should be classified as an enemy combatant by the president to make them eligible for a military trial.

The hearings for the 14 are expected to last through April, according to Pentagon officials.

Pentagon officials said a total of six high-value detainees have now gone through these hearings. The names of the three others and the transcripts of their hearings have not yet been released.

Not sure what to make of it. for starts you got this prick singing like a fucking bird, and swearing he did the planning. We know he is fairly high up the food chain. If this is the guy responsible I dont have any qualms about bathing his ass in pigs blood and putting a cap in his ass.

I hear rumors that Cheney personally went down there and tortured him with a band saw, a koran 3 chipmunks a bollte of extra virgin olive oil and a pair of rubber pants.

I think he also confessed to the Chicago fire, JFK assassination, Jack the Rippers murders, and Hurricane Katrina.

however the is some credibility. seems he had information that was not publicized to the press. The only way he could have know about some of the details was to have a) been there or b) had first hand knowledge. either way he needs to die.

Or it's a government ploy to focus our attentions toward more profitable wars than going after cave monkeys in Afghanistan.

It's just all too convenient being that this news coincides with a slew of republican scandals and negative public opinion.

as for this alot of people call it wagging the dog, however if it is it would not be the first time an administration did that.

Maybe this guy realized he is screwed if he does confess and screwed if he doesn't.

Big deal, he confesed, so now we'll get to spend money on all sorts of BS like appeals and shit.

Could it be an attempt to make a mockery(sp) of our legal system?

Could it be to distract our desire to find the others in charge?

I don't see the benefit he will gain in this confession.
For him to apologize that "kids were killed" IMHO furthers a question that he ISN'T in charge, these guys don't care who they kill, we are all <forget the word>.

How the hell would we know the hierachy of an organization like this? Involved or not, this shouldn't even make the headline.

Flush goes the sounds of millions of OUR dollars for HIS appeals.

This is a fucking joke.

actually since he is not an American he does not get out appeals process. He goes to war crimes.

one appeal and they put a cap in his ass...of hang him. or finish waterboarding him. Whatever if he is actually guilty I hate to say it, but dont give him the death penalty. Stick him in general pop in Leavenworth.

I agree with you in the don't kill him part. I do not believe corp punishment is an acceptable use of crime control (I would bet statistics back this up, but I'm not going to bother looking).

Putting him in ANY prison will give him the death penatly anyway.

I still don't think this is "that big a deal" even though on Jay Leno they had Dan Rathers on there saying something like "this is some of the biggest news . . . . "

This one guy won't do a thing for us :\

Drop a few of his friends off with him, give them all leather vests with no undershirts and a film crew and bam, we've got the long awaited sequel to "The Warriors".
