Washington could do some damage in the east also especially if Arenas is on.

The Suns beat the Mavericks in the rematch yesterday by over 20 points. The offense rebound wonder Dampier didn't play though.

Yeah... but, those things happen. We don't make excuses for losing game 3 without Devin, even though he's very instrumental against Phoenix... and we don't make excuses for losing without Dampier, even though he's a very important cog against them. We have to find a way to win no matter what happens. If we lose Dirk, Josh or Terry... we should still be deep enough to win without them.

I'm not necessarily worried about the loss, but it's definitely concerning. Even if only for the confidence boost they just got.

Hi let's not forget that the Bulls beat them both. Luol Deng for MVP! =P

Cleveland beats Chicago.. Then loses to Boston.

It's really maddening. I'm ready for the playoffs.

Arenas is going to have surgery on his left knee so you can kiss the Wizards' slim chance to win it all goodbye.

Arenas was diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear and was to have arthroscopic surgery later in the day at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington. The Wizards said the recovery time will be two to three months, meaning he might play again this season only if Washington manages to make the NBA finals without him.

They also lost Butler to a broken bone in his hand last week.

I have both in the Basketball pool.

Worst part is Arenas is still on the can't cut list so I can't drop the poor bastard.

yup, I have him on my team... on the league that I've actually put effort in. I'm tied for first, but assists and steals are the highly contested items that I NEED to finish out on top. I NEED FREE STEALS now. fuck

Earl Boykins is likely going to play a lot since Milwakee is pretty much shutting everyone down. Antonio Daniels might be another good pickup for steals.

I think the Spurs might be the best team in the league right now.

Shrug... I think that's reaching a bit, to say that they are 'the best'... but... sure, they are doing that 'late season push' that they always do...

The thing is, this whole season, I wouldn't have argued that. I've said that - all year long - all around the water cooler... watch out for San Antonio. If they catch up and take the #2 spot from Phoenix... holy shit, that's crazy. In December, Phoenix was 'in the hunt' for the #1 record in the league - homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. Now all of the sudden, they might not even get it outside of the 1st round? Holy twist of events!

However, I'd still argue for Dallas over San Antonio in a 7 game series. SA just doesn't have the depth nor the energy to keep up. Dallas has a 'much' easier road to the finals than SA... they cruise through round1 against a team that didn't want to be there in the first place (get swept by Dallas AND lose out in the lottery? fuck that), sleep for a week while Utah/Houston battle it out for 7... then face the battered winner between the two of them... beat either of them in 5 or 6 games, and then rest for a few days while San Antonio and Phoenix slug it out.

Phoenix / San Antonio meanwhile play 'legit' playoff teams in round 1... both of which I'd totally like to avoid - Lakers / Nuggets. No way either of those teams gets swept. And then... there's no possible way that SA/PHO doesn't go all 7 games. No way. And... the winner is probably the team that didn't have to play Kobe in round 1. That's my bet. I totally think that Phoenix 'can' beat San Antonio, but I'd give San Antonio 3:2 odds. Anyway... they slug it out... Dallas rests...

but who knows... We always struggle a bit with Yao, maybe we get upset and it's Houston / L.A. in the WCF and we are all wrong?

Well, I'm betting that Dallas fans are hoping like hell your 1st round opponent isn't the Warriors. The warriors are certainly not in Dallas' class, but for some reason they've given Dallas fits all year. Not to mention, this'd be GS's first playoffs in a dozen years, they wouldn't care that they're there "just to get swept"...

Now, the odds of the Warriors making it in, I have no idea, I assume fairly slim, but nevertheless...

Well, that's the thing. GS is the only team that would have anything to gain by making it in (first playoff berth in forever). All of the 'possible' 8th seeds are better off dumping it, just for their 8% chance at Greg Oden / Kevin Durant.

And... Nelllie knows the Mavs and he knows Avery... but... GS/Dallas would still not go past 5 games. It's a totally different system in the playoffs. Winning a regular season game against a meaningless team isn't as important as playoff time.

GS Pho first round would be hilarious IMO. I think GS could give Phoenix nightmares in the first round, but I just don't see them climbing that high.

Yeah... for that to happen, Denver / LA would have to lose like... every game from now on, and GS would have to win every game... They were 6 games back from the 7 spot, last I saw. And, that's assuming San Antonio doesn't take the 2 spot from Phoenix. If that happens, GS would have to get 6-seed, which would take a miracle.

STILL... I'd burn those games onto DVD and watch them for years.

Game1: Pho165-GS157
Game2: GS144-Pho143
Game3: Pho140-GS118
Game4: Pho123-GS120
Game5: GS152-Pho136
Game6: GS142-Pho122
Game7: Pho117-GS112

Phoenix wins the highest scoring series ever... plays a rested San Antonio 2 days later.

It would be tough for them to catch the Lakers for the seventh spot. They are 2 games back with 4 to play and the Lakers holds the tie breaker.

Not 'that' hard... LA would have to go 1-3 and their next four aren't COMPLETELY easy... Clippers, Suns, Sonics, Kings. They won't lose to the Sonics but Kings, Clippers and Suns are possible.

Meanwhile, GS would have to go 4-0 and their schedule is easier... Kings, Wolves, Mavericks, Blazers.

Still... odds are better that LA would win than GS... they are the better team. So, yeah... LA is keeping the 7 spot.

With way the Lakers are playing right now, they might not even make the playoffs. It could be the Clippers and the Warriors for the seventh and eighth spot.
