LotR Open Beta

Post by Ginzburgh »

LotR open beta started today. Anyone going to get down with it?

I'm on fire<something> server. I forget the name, just know it starts with "fire".

Name a Ginzburgh hoo-rah.

fileplanet still has the european-only beta, looks like gamespot is the only way of getting into this. or buying the new issue of PC Gamer.

I have a key, I was really unimpressed in beta although there were some neat features and I'm a big Tolkien fan. If a group starts playing I'd join.

Actually, they copied more from WOW than EQ2. The graphics aren't like WOW, but the gameplay seems very similar to it, with the Tolkien mythos.

As an addendum, with a top end system this game is probably the prettiest on the market. It runs faster and looks much nicer than EQ2.

I've made a couple characters to screw around with. I added you to my friends Ginz.

I did the beta in late February/early March, so I don't know how much has changed from there, if anything, but it was one of the most beautiful games that still ran smoothly on my machine. Vanguard fucked my machine up, but with LOTRO I could stand in a field of wild flowers and pan around with minimal hesitation by my system. The game play was a little lackluster and failed to hold my attention, but I only got to level 10 or so on a burglar before giving up. Talking to friends, they say that at level 15, the game really opens up and becomes exciting, but it failed to keep me interested for even that long. The only other thing that really turned me off were all the rabid LOTR fanbois getting into arguments in general chat.

Oh, also I liked that I could "play" my clarinet :>

April 24th.

What sucks is I've played about 20 minutes of the open beta, because work has been killing me.

We could always move our Vanguard group here, Rey. :dunno:

I think the graphics are pretty, but I don't like the way the characters move...something feels off to me.

Maybe I just need to mess around with the settings a bit more.

Meh... I am not enthralled. It is nice looking and runs well on my laptop but it doesn't seem to have that secret ingredient that makes me want to stay up late and play it.

Game doesn't run on my computer. It's a known bug but they can't do anything about it. Awesome customer service.

Been in beta and quite enjoying it. I have a minstrel (healer) and guardian (tank) ready to go when live begins. My guild in WoW is deep in Karazhan and for nearly 4 weeks I've not logged on once due to my enjoyment of this game.

after playing this for a while I am thinking it needs alot more work. Lore masters are fucking useless, Hunters are appearing faster than pigeons at a statue convention, Champions still have no clue what they are used for...minstrels automatically get a tattoo on their arm when the make one with the word 'gay' on it. Guardians keep hitting the taunt button and nothing happens, Captains are....well...not sure noone knows what they do. The gold farmers are spamming the tells...

At this point I paid my 10 bucks for preorder just so if the game improves I can get it for 10 bucks a month.

I think Ill stick to eq2, continue playing that game. Not seen anything better come along and seen quite alot worse.

LotR is like a poor mans WoW as far as im concerned. They opted for a more realistic look to the character models, not as realistic as EQ2 or Vanguard but not cartoonish like WoW. I would have no problem with the realistic character models if their actions didn't seem so stiff, which is LotR's case, they do.

The only reason I would play it is if I was bored of whatever mmo I am currently playing (which I'm not) and I was a huge lotr fanboi. I am a fan, just not a rabid fan.

I'll pass and keep playing WoW for now, I'm on track to get my lock to 1000 shadow damage in the next month. That wouldn't be a big deal if I raided, but I don't. gogo tailoring.

Well lets say I tried Wow, played it for a few months and I got the same amount of hapiness and enjoyment out of it, as hammering my nuts with a polo mallet.

I thought it was tedious, but to each his own. You dont like eq2, and I dont care for wow.

i have fun in eq2. I have a good core group and a decent raiding group. Great guild and alot of friends. Don't know <shrug> WoW never insterested me for more than 2 months at a time.

LOTR on the other hand interested me for about a weekend.

Friends are what makes the game. If you want an example, look no further than king dork who works at EBgames in fairfield, CT. He still plays SWG because of his friends.

He also roleplays in SWG and than talks about it to his customers. I told him not to..
