guys i have a problem.

lately i find that i am incapable of waking up before 7:30 (i have to be to work by 8), despite the fact that i get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night. what's the deal? i exercise fairly regularly, i eat relatively well (except for on easter lol), and i don't ever go to bed later than 11--usually much earlier (somewhere between 9:30 and 10:30).

what gives? what am i doing wrong?

Could be a lack of Vitamin D in the body. Its pretty common during the winter months when we are deprived of the sun.

Could be SAD's too, wich goes hand in hand with the lack of Vitamin D.

It could be you are getting too much sleep. Maybe set yourself up for 7 hours exactly and see how that works. Also, check to make sure you do not have sleep apnea. 8 hours of poor sleep is not as good as 4 good hours.

Also, perhaps try a 15 minute exercise routine when you first get up in the morning. I've found that will generally ensure that one has extra energy throughout the day.

Not to put to fine a point on it, but Tanning is the best way to up the vitamin D levels in your body. The sun (or UV rays) actually is the number 1 way for the body to get Vitamin D.

There are supplements available that are vitamin D based, however the body doesnt absorb them to give your body the required dosage of vitamin D. Those supplements will help, but are not the outright solution.

He's right. 30 minutes of sunlight a day will give you all the vitamin D your body needs.
Otherwise, food-wise, your best source of Vitamin D will come from fish, specifically anything with a higher fat content (as it's an fat, not water, soluble vitamin) like salmon or sardines. Canned tuna that is packed in oil is also a decent source.
If you take supplements, take a dose of cod liver oil - it's good all around.

It's also possible that your iron levels are low, something we women constantly should watch for. Might try taking an iron supplement or eating things richer in iron like liver or using blackstrap molasses in your cooking.

Go tot he doctor and check for anemia also, I seem to remember one of these threads a while back. Slow FE and 2 baby asprin in the morning would help if thats the case.

i'm due to go to the doctor soon anyway to look into a couple other things (frequent heartburn, some heart skipsies, etc.) so i'll just add that to the list.

Ok I'm going tanning today. That might be my problem as well. I've been trying to go to bed by 11pm so that I can get 8 hours of sleep before a 30-40 min bike ride before work.

Before I started work I was going to bed around 2/3am. Switching up my sleeping routine has been hard. My body doesn't want to sleep when I want it to. I wake up constantly throughout the night. I'd think that a bike ride in the morning + 2 hours weight lifting after work would knock me out, but it doesn't.

it could also be depression Leah. I would recommend trying some ST John's Wort as a daily supplement. Mild forms of depression can usually be fixed by this. I know if I dont take my ST John's and my vitamin supplement I feel like hammered shit by noon.

whatever you decide to do, if you follow anybody's suggestions on here, make sure you do your homework.

btw st john's wort can have some nasty side effects. It could easily make your fatigue worse, and it can also mess with birth control pills

Side Effects and Cautions

* St. John's wort may cause increased sensitivity to sunlight. Other side effects can include anxiety, dry mouth, dizziness, gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue, headache, or sexual dysfunction.
* Research shows that St. John's wort interacts with some drugs. The herb affects the way the body processes or breaks down many drugs; in some cases, it may speed or slow a drug's breakdown. Drugs that can be affected include:
o Indinavir and possibly other drugs used to control HIV infection
o Irinotecan and possibly other drugs used to treat cancer
o Cyclosporine, which prevents the body from rejecting transplanted organs
o Digoxin, which strengthens heart muscle contractions
o Warfarin and related anticoagulants
o Birth control pills
o Antidepressants
* When combined with certain antidepressants, St. John's wort may increase side effects such as nausea, anxiety, headache, and confusion.
* St. John's wort is not a proven therapy for depression. If depression is not adequately treated, it can become severe. Anyone who may have depression should see a health care provider. There are effective proven therapies available.
* It is important to inform your health care providers about any herb or dietary supplement you are using, including St. John's wort. This helps to ensure safe and coordinated care.
