One Billion Bulbs

Regardless of ones views on Global Warming, Kyoto, or Al Gore, this is a cause worthy of everyone getting on board.

Most of my house has beeen changed to compact fluorescent lightbulbs. The few remaining will be gone in the next month.

Imagine if people all over the world mobilized to replace one billion standard incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs. What would that mean? It would mean that those people would save money each month on their electricity bill. It would mean they would save enough energy to light tens of millions of homes for a year. It would mean the prevention of greenhouse gases equivalent to the annual emissions of millions of cars.

Most of the bulbs covered by shades or globes in our house are those bulbs. Do need to convert the rest, though.

The only ones I won't convert are decorative ones or ones you can see the bulb.

They cost more but they last longer.

Do be aware they contain a very small amount of Mercury. If you break one it's best to open windows and such to let the room ventilate. Also don't throw the things in the trash, there are better disposal options in most areas.

its getting to the point everythging I own needs special disposal. My storage area is starting to look like a ad for Sanford and Son.

I LOL'd as I've got the same problem. I still have an old AT computer I've not "trashed" yet because of "toxic" things on PCB's.

Think that's bad? I still have a 386 processor lying around... just in case I find someone in need of one. I don't think I have a MB for it... but I bet if I looked I have memory for the generation too.

I can top it. Timex Sinclair 1000. My mother swears she ran across it the other a month or so ago. I am hoping she finds it again.
