Total War

Post by togusa »

I've been playing Medieval: Total War 2 the past couple of days and I'm somewhat disappointed. The game seems like it is much slower paced than Shogun (the last total war I played). What do you guys think about M:TW2? Is Rome better?

M2TW uses the same engine from Rome with a few tweaks. Medieval 1 is almost exactly like Shogun, but on a map about 10x the size. and the factions are a lot more unique in terms of units. if you really like shogun more i'd suggest picking up the first medieval game.

for more battles in M2TW, try playing the turks/egyptians/byzantines. the mongols and timurids show up to the east of them, with hordes of troops. i forget what year they show up, but you'll have time to conquer a lot before you see them. at least one of those factions brings elephants with cannons on their backs :eyecrazy:

plus chances are you'll be the target of crusades if you own the holy land.

Hmm, do you have to beat the main campaign with certain factions to be able to play the more unique ones? Right now I can only be Britain, Spain, Venice, Holy Roman Empire, and France. I wish they would just make Shogun 2 :(

you can edit a file to unlock all the factions(rather than beat the campaign)

C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt

open that file with notepad, then cut/paste all the factions from under "unlockable" over to "playable". i wouldn't mess with the "nonplayable" ones, since they will either crash you, or still won't be selectable(mongols arn't in the game at start)

Ok cool.. while we're on the subject, are there any other strategy games around that are enjoyable? The last one I played seriously and enjoyed was Age of Kings 2. I have been looking at Supreme commander.
