This is the most inaccurate statement ever made on NT.

Westwood had a few year jump on Blizzard in the RTS genre. Warcraft was a blatant rip off of Westwoods pioneering game Dune 2 which was the basis for the Command and Conquer series. Just like World of Warcraft is a blatant rip off of Everquest. Blizzard are great at taking something good and mass marketing it to the lowest common denominator.

I liked SC, but man there were friends of mine who pwned me up and down.

After finishing Warhammer Dawn of War, I've given up RTS. I found them fun before, but they no longer interest me.

Interestingly enough, I wonder if this report has it wrong and Blizzard is looking at a Starcraft MMo. I read on a few gaming sites how they were hiring more MMO people for a nextgen game. I wonder if this is it.

While command and conquer is fun I find it hilarious you site the lowest common denominator excuse when the most viable C&C tactics were 203850253089 tank rushes.

Starcraft is on the same level as Halo for FPS in my book. It's an RTS for Asians and noobs to the genre. There is little to no strategy to massive amounts of micromanagement and sending swarms of the same exact unit en masse.

Real strategy such as what you need to use in the total war series, is vastly superior and much more challenging.

Starcraft 2 will MAYBE be infinitely better, but my faith in Blizzard is fairly low. They will market this game to the widest audience possible while sacrificing quality to do so.

In C&C they do... well at least Generals.

Humvees filled with 4 rocket dudes + 1 sniper = win so long as the enemy doesn't have a huge number of tanks and even then it isn't too hard if you've got the long range thing going on at your strategy center.

It is an MMO.

The long-rumoured new instalment of Blizzard's massive StarCraft series is set to be unveiled later this month - and it's another massively-multiplayer online game in the style of World of Warcraft, CVG can reveal.

Well placed US sources have revealed to us that the StarCraft MMO will be unveiled at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea - the epicentre of the sci-fi RTS series' rabid fandom.

The unveiling of the new instalment has previously been rumoured for the South Korea event, though we now know that the title is in fact an online spin-off and not a new RTS game as previously assumed.

Of course this is massive news for both Vivendi and the MMO world; Blizzard's other online offering World of Warcraft has topped 6 million subscribers and is arguably the biggest game around today.

The question is, is there room for both World of Warcraft and a StarCraft MMO? The later will have to be a very different type of online game to convince gamers to subscribe to both of Blizzard's pair.

We will of course let you know as soon as soon as Blizzard officially confirms the game on May 19.

Very true, but a SC MMO does interest me a bit.

i bet they were almost done with Ghost and then decided it'd make more money if it were an MMO. it'll come out soon and they'll say they've been working on it secretly for years as their opus magnum

and it'll still be good
