I hate the word panic...

Just, sort of... blown away.

Pretty much, everything that could possibly go 'right' for the Warriors, has. They are playing at probably 70% 'skill' and 30% 'tactics'. That's not a knock on Nellie, because if the Warriors win one more game, I'm giving ALL credit to him... But, every Warrior is playing like Kobe right now - fearless, taking STUPID shots, yet... they are going in.

The main issue here is that the Mavs are SCARED. It's fucking ridiculous. They aren't playing with the same fire that the Warriors have. Playing with a chip on your (collective) shoulder has proven to be an incredibly dangerous factor in sports. Nellie played off of this like a master. And, I hate him for it.

Panic? No... I don't like the term. Worried as hell? Sure. Maybe it's totally synonymous, but... whatever. But I'm not worried at the Warriors as much as I am the Mavs. WE are beating ourselves twenty times more effectively than the Warriors are beating us.

Dallas is losing to a crap team that will probably be swept in the next round, that seemed to rightly have their number in the regular season. Give props to Nellie.

I'm not buying the 'beating ourselves' bullshit. Sure, that works in a game, but not three. Golden State is not playing 'above' themselves, by any means. Every player isn't playing like Kobe. That's bullshit. They are playing the same way they've played all year. The same way that spanked the Mavericks every time they've played them in the regular season.

Cool, Heat are gone. Mavs look to be gone. Now, if Detroit can lose, things will really get interesting.

Chicago is the only team in the east that can beat Detroit.

Lyion... he hit a fucking half-court 3pointer. Xenu is most certainly smiling on them.

Baron Davis is averaging 10ppg more than the best of his entire career - against one of the top defenses (prior to this series). They are jacking up 3s and STUPID shots like crazy. I could make a 5 minute highlight reel of J-Rich's ridiculous finishes... and he has not played like that in 4 years. I know because I'm a big fan of BOTH players.

If you think they've played like this all year, you've obviously not seen more than 3 games (on TNT, likely) this year. I've seen plenty. I saw the game where they absolutely DESTROYED Detroit (by 33 I think) by playing SMART basketball and hitting all their shots. I watched Orlando beat them by 20 in a game where they threw up nearly 20 3pointers and only hit a few of em. A week later, I saw them get spanked by the fucking GRIZZLIES in the highest-scoring NON-overtime game in the past decade. They let the worst team in the league (LAST in offense) score 144 on them. Where is this defense against Dallas coming from?

Dallas has no hunger. They don't have the same swagger that GS has... I have no idea why. This whole season, we've played with that fire... the, we have something to prove' attitude... and we lost it. I have no idea if Avery will be able to get it back. It's very very dismal around here.

To quote a basketball buddy of mine,

"Last night when Barnes subbed in late in the 4th…that’s when I knew we would lose. When he came in you could see the look on his face…it was like Mike Tyson getting into the ring with an 8th grader…and the Mavs looked scared as hell. It was very upsetting...

It seems to me as if the Mavs we so focused on winning the championship that they didn’t remember to focus on beating the Warriors. Does that make sense?"

I'm not a basketball expert but I call bullshit Vonk. GSW shot for like 42% last night. That game was won with D. Yes they had a few stupid shots that made it, but last night proved that GSW's D is what put the Mav's down. Also, I thought Dallas played a great game, yet they still got beaten. Terry and Stackhouse were on. Dirk of course was on. They still lost. No one beat themselves. They just got beat by the opposing team and the record breaking crowd.

It's great when people guage a game by looking at the box score.

The first quarter, they shot 37%. Second, 50%. Third, 45%, Fourth 50%. That's 45.5% overall. That's fucking incredible for the playoffs.

In fact, they are 4th best in the league in FG% for the post-season... Dallas is 4th worst. And yeah, they are absolutely jacking those shots up... they are EASILY #1 at 3P attempts, yet are 5th from worst in accuracy.

We are killing ourselves. This is not the same team that was playing months ago... this is the mavericks of 2 years ago, timid after losing 'again' to Phoenix or San Antonio in the playoffs. All year long, we were gutting people with our intensity. Now? I don't even feel like watching these games. It's rough.

Pretty much.

Plus, he fucking BUILT Dirk... so he knows EVERYTHING about him. It's pretty amazing to see someone shut down so effectively. You gotta think that if Nellie was playing (1960s Don Nelson), he'd be the most amazing defender in the world against Dirk. He's like... a son.

I seem to recall saying before this series started that the Warriors were the last possible team you guys wanted to face in the opening round, but you were unconcerned. I mean, 13 years since playoff appearances. Most people on the team had never even been to the playoffs, ever. Maybe with a different coach, they'd be in "Aw, gee, shucks, we're just glad to be here" mode and be an easy sweep target, but not with Nellie running the show. ESPECIALLY not when you have crowds behind them like they did at those 2 home games, those were absolutely and utterly insane, which was only to be expected.

Anyway, the Mavs REALLY didn't want this match up, and the Warriors really did. I bet you that if the Mavs were facing the Lakers or even the Nuggets, they'd be up 3-1, not down 3-1. And, if the Warriors were facing the Suns or even the Spurs, they'd be down 3-1.

The GS Warriors regular season games against the Mavs should've given anyone pause.

If GS were playing the Spurs or Suns, they'd lose this series in 5. As they will in the second round. Nellie just knows the Mavs.

It always matters who one plays. Ask Miami.

Swagger, shmagger. Everyone knew the problems Dallas had had vs the warriors in the regular season, and that Nellie knows your team inside, out, backwards, and forwards. Sheer logic would dictate that you'd rather face someone else. Plus, the team and the fans were absolutely elated to break that 13-year hell, and were enthusiastic as all hell to make it into the playoffs. Not to mention, they were playing their best ball of the year those last couple weeks of the season, as the team finally gelled as everyone got healthy again.

In any case, I think the biggest difference has been that the warriors are the much hungrier team. Dallas came in expecting to win. The Warriors came in expecting to bust their asses and let the chips fall where they may. When the Warriors didn't meekly fall over to Dallas "obvious superiority", it knocked the Mavs for a loop they still haven't recovered from. Hell, this series could potentially be over by now, if not for Davis & Jackson imploding in the 2nd half of Game 2. It was still fairly close, with a decent amount of time to play. If Dallas doesn't find that hunger again, they're gone in game 5. Even if they do, I'm thinking they're gone in game 6 when the series hits Oakland again.

I don't want to jinx us by countering your jinx... but... careful there...

We said the same thing last year when we were up 3-1 against San Antonio. Even IF they win game 5... Well... they came back, won the next 2 (including the 6th in Dallas) and we had to beat them on the road, tight-as-hell overtime game in an incredibly hostile environment. Considered by many to be the greatest 7-game series ever.

The Warriors was a hot team going down the stretch. They finished the season 16-5 with win over Utah, Phoenix, and 2 over Dallas although, in the last one, I think Cuban was playing. Out of the 5 losses, two were to San Antonio.

Well, the Raptors just got lucky as all fuck.

Mavs WERE pounding the Warriors into mulch, but Warriors went on a serious run at the end of the 1st half. Should be an interesting 2nd half. I think the Mavs'll win, but not by tons, but that even if they lose tonight, Warriors'll win game 6.
