Vanguard Live. Beginning thoughts.

You have been way ahead of our lil group. We are as casual as you, but hopefully will close the gap in the late 20s/30s.
I started over when Rey and OD came to Targ and we have a nice set little group.
Rey's character is Donalbain, and our third is Odouls.
I'll look for you online, Toss. We're generally playing 8:30 to 11:30 Wednesdays EST, and Sunday night a tad earlier.

Of course. I will look for you guys this weekend. 3 of our players are way more hardcore and have several characters in different lvl ranges. I started up a disciple the other day too and am willing to play alts until we get a nice well rounded group in level range.
Ok, after playing a few weeks of VG with a good group, I'm almost ready to throw in the towel.
The game has some great ideas, but there are way too many bugs. 6 of the 15 quests I tried to do this week were bugged. I managed to go skydiving through the world at least 5 times over this weekend.
I really want to like VG, but currently it is its own worst enemy, not discounting the fact Sigil is broke and seems to fuck up the game worse every time they patch it.
I no longer have a WOW account, and I just can't spend 7 years levelling solo in EQ2 to catch up to anyone I know. Any ideas for a fun, casual MMO out there?

I dont care what anyone says, Vanguard turned out to be crap. LoTRO has turned out to be AWESOME. It is slow lvling, you can be casual or hardcore. Has great content, sticks to the lore of the books. Runs great on most machines.
Vanguard was NONE of those. Hell even the monster play in LoTRO is pretty SICK. I am actually playing my monster more than anything. Look up Gnilgnuey on Vilya server monster play(ettenmoors) or Edorin on Vilya regular free peoples.

Apparently 3 active and KNOWN item/gold dups on VG right now. http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorpg-g ... ffect.html
Apparently, it's so bad as a result, that the people of one server are instituting a barter-based economy as a result. Kinda like in Diablo, where no one payed with money; things were costed at so many SOJ's. (Or even pre-Kunark EQ, where people bartered with SSOYs and FBSSs) I'm just amazed that it's THAT bad already from these bugs.
What's really astounding is that Sigil hasn't brought the servers down to fix the problems, and wiped all the dup'ed stuff. Hell, even EQ was responsive on that, if nothing else. Was just about the one thing that would get SOE to jump, fast, was someone finding a new dup bug.

Honestly, I don't think Sigil has the manpower to do anything, Arlos. They bought back rights to the game for a fraction of what MS was paying, and were able to do a publish deal with SOE that enabled them to retain rights.
Their initial sales were fair, but they are barely breaking even and don't have any cash on hand to fix the train wreck of a game. It's why they are attempting to sell it to SOE, who by all apparent measures isn't going to pay much for it.
LOTRO looked neat, but my multiple forays into beta really didn't do anything for me. maybe the game gets really good after 15, but it just didn't wow me.
The only way I'd buy LOTR is if I had a consistent group.
I picked up Gothic 3 for 20 bucks at target, to give me something RPGish to do

I never could figure it out, Rey. I also had 2 broken crafting quests that night that really irked me.
I also have fun when we play, and I'm willing to keep going a night or two a week.
I think the game has great potential, but right now needs a lot of work. It really does feel like we're paying for open beta to me.

It's being tweaked by SoE, so I think people are just lying low for a bit to see what they do with it.
