Music isn't what it used to be.

I just started watching some old DVD's I had, and listening to my old record collection, (Do it every time i've moved, re-organize, listen to em all, etc etc.) I've got a huge CD and Record Collection, coupled with atleast 30ish DVD Music Video's of various music entrepreneurs.

My favorite musician and performer this time around is David Byrne from Talking Heads.

There's a distinct difference in emotion and lack thereof in regards to the musicians pre-1995 and the ones thereafter to present. I encourage you guys to check out some of the youtube videos of David Byrne/Talking Heads.

So I guess my question to you all is: What are some of your favorite "True Performers and Musicians," the ones who lived and breathed every minute of their music as it was their life. From Grunge to Cockrock.

The name of the DVD for Talking Heads (Which you can see a couple songs on Youtube) is "Stop Making Sense" for anyone who'd be interested in ordering it online or whatnot. I recommend it highly, especially if you have surround sound in your home.

Here are a couple good ones, by the way. (They're from the DVD.)

What i'd do to transfer back into '85 and see this concert.

That's the best concert film ever made. When it came out, it ran at the local art theater for almost a year. We went to see it at least 3 times a month. Awesome.

Just another example of how corp. America is ruining everything they touch.

Instead of music being a passion of art - it's now been turned into a money machine for advertising.

Songs aren't songs anymore - they're commercials selling *something.*

That's only a matter of radio and tv though.. there are plenty of talented artists that aren't plagued by bullshit. To say no music is good anymore is incorrect~

You've always had to search for good music. "They" have been shovelling shit to the masses since the 50's. This is nothing new.

When I was in Atlantic City this week, I noticed alot of the acts were sinatra/martin/lewis/rat pack cover shows.

Do you guys think in 30 years from now, the acts will cover music from our generation? Like Madonna/Michael Jackson? Or will it still be sinatra?

Not in AC / Vegas... those towns have always drawn that style of music it seems. Hopefully that will never change.

Different side of the family. My mother's family are all from Germany.

Tool, The Cure, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, The Faint, *Built To Spill*, Perfect Circle, Pink Floyd, Nirvana's Old Stuff (Beginning Era of the Grunge before it evolved into shit), etc. Some of these 90's bands were good shit too. I especially like Built To Spill and Radiohead, great stuff. Modest Mouse as well, their new CD that came out back in March is great. The list goes on, i've got like over two thousand CD's.

They're one of the bands that if you listen to too much of their stuff, since a lot of it can be repetitive, that it will drive you up the wall. But if you listen to them seldomly, then they can be pretty decent.~

agreed

TOOL: i turned down a TOOL ticket in omaha/council bluffs on saturday. i have seen them four times already, and each performance was considerably less impressive than the first, yet strangely more expensive. the first one i saw was on the aenima tour, and they played mostly album tracks-- the last one i saw was supporting lateralus, and 80% of the show was what you'd hear on any modern rock station in the course of a week. no Third Eye, no Pushit, no Eulogy, just a live "Best Of..." pretty much. the final nail in the coffin? tickets for this show were 65$ a pop! no thanks, i think my days of seeing TOOL live are over-- at least until ticket prices come down under $25 again.

I love modest mouse. I have been listening to them for a VERY long time. When i first started to listen to them, they did annoy the hell out of me. The more i listened to them the more i liked them, they are one of bands that grows on you.
