Mart can defend herself fine, and if it's an issue Kahar can come here and go postal with whatever incomprehensible ramblings he decides to write.

You have just gotten to a point of nasty silliness. You're a good guy behind the angst poster bit, but of late it's all angst and it's not even fun or original.

Why would folks be against a tax hike, how do you expect to pay for the largest financial hole dug in US history?

We've been spending money we don't have, someone has to pay up, who do you want it to be?

It's kind of impossible to act when 3 posters here know me personally. Another 2 have met me...etc.

Because government does not use the extra tax dollars responsibly. Have you bothered to look at the massive earmarks and pork coming from congress <like usual>.

The economy is booming and doing quite well, despite a sleuth of nasty events. We have lots of added revenue from that. A big middle class tax increase will slowdown the economy, hurt the middle class, the ones the DNC promised to protect, and I guarantee it will not be used wisely.

Hopefully it'll get vetoed and thrown back.

Instead we should continue to borrow billions of dollars every day until our dollar is worthless in the world market. We should also continue to squeeze every single dollar we can out of the rickety economy as it is and make sure we all "get ours" before the whole fucking thing collapses. A mad cash grab making the rich exponentially richer and putting an even larger percentage of the US population in poverty is brilliant economics.

Health care? Fuck em, I can afford it so why the fuck would I want a public program? Welfare? I don't need it so fuck anyone else that might. Financial aid? Ha! If your parents aren't rich, you don't deserve to go to school. Public schools? My kids all go to private school so fuck your kids.

Lyion, who is going to pay? You only have 3 options (rich, middle, poor) and historically it has always been middleclass.

I agree with Toss's last post

Our GOV doesn't care about you. You think you have some level of control but you do not, you think your vote counts, but it does not. The only folks with any potential to win an election are corrupt so if you do vote for someone that wins, you're voting in corruption.

Fat and pork in any level of legislation is the norm and to be expected.

Tax increase is required to pay for all the things the government does to protect us, that is their job, and they do it so skillfully

Problem is...in order for the debt to get paid, Congress has to actually, you know, tighten the belt. Until they change their spending habits its no use. And I'm talking full Congress here...not one side or the other.

This is not true, they can continue to be fat and get fatter still. Why would you say that?

I'm talking across the board as well, not Rep or Dem. Our government is corrupt, I don't think 100% but enough corruption to fake out the stupid majority of our nation to keep playing along.

All they have to do is agree to increase a tax or decrease their spend. If I were in control and didn't care about the people that put me in control (as does most of our elected officials), I would go tax AND increase my pay with another week of vaca. to boot.

But they WON'T. Tax dollars is where they get their power from. It's their leverage and their ego wrapped up in a tidy green package.

Not one cent of any increase will go towards the debt. It'll all be earmarked for special programs.

In a lot of ways, the GOV is like organized crime. They take your money and say they'll protect you, yet don't deliver.

I agree, tax=power, GOV has an endless lust for power, tax hike makes perfect sense, regardless of what they sell to you vs what they actually buy.

Tossica hit the nail on the head.

Everyone talks about Bushisms, but here's a favorite Cheney aphorism: "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter."

When deficits increase, so too do long term interest interest rates. Adjustable rate mortages goes up when China decides to stop buying ten-year treasury notes we'll have another recession on our hands... unless the Fed decides to lower the interest rates again, increase borrowing... um wait, whose going to buy the debt again?

Half of the federal debt is held by foreign countries. Taxes need to be increased to pay down the debt in order to lower long term interest rates. Macroeconomics 101.

Except none of these new taxes will be used to pay down the debt. Or provide health care, which is very deceitful argument, or to help student loans, of which there are a ton that are easy to get.

The simple truth is the government squeezes the bejesus out of us already taxwise. How about instead of them looking to take more cash they will ineptly use, we put reigns on spending and stop the triple and quadruple taxation which currently occurs and is a joke.

Seeing how the Middle Class is already getting hurt with the idiotic AMT, howzabout we don't put any more pressure on them?
