any game where you build your character's skills, gain levels, and play through a fantasy storyline with dragons and werewolves and bats and spiders and you can cast spells and use bows and arrows is considered a roleplaying game by me. but dungeon siege is more like a rpg/adventure, like zelda or diablo.

I wouldn't limit the description to just fantasy settings. Futuristic settings work just as well.

I'm just as happy to blow up an enemy mech as I am to slay an orc.

All I ask is that they let me build my pilot/party/and mechs how I want them, and a good story.
Would prefer a little more leeway on how I proceed through the story than a game like Front Mission 4 (and 3, the only ones I've played) provides, but I can live with strict linearity if the rest is well done (which it is).

they made a game that would be just like EQ in the sense same items, mobs, cities etc, up through Velious.

Maybe even PoP. Make it like Baldurs gate, but you can have many different views so you can see whats on your character like in EQ when we see others.

Make it as many disks or as big as you want. Cut out the bullshit zones, the ones that don't have decent loot and were pretty much worthless for EQ.

Have a group of 6 that can take most of the stuf till Velious/PoP then you need 2 maybe 3 groups of 6 but no more

I just want a game where its EQ but i can stop and puase without worrying about Raid Loot points, if someone LDs and wipes the whole raid out. Don't have to worry about keepin up with Levels no race on mobs etc. But i can get the feel of Kanors Castle again, without the stupidity. Fight Arry without a 7 hour stand off (:P) etc. Just something to play with friends and you don't need a HUGE guild to do stuff.

It would be nice for everyone in EQ now to be able to transfer their characters into EQ 2 then they shut down EQ and make a single player game. I wouldn't mind starting over.

Dildo hat must come back in some game!

Always wished they'd make a Baldur's Gate clone, only set in Kunark around the height of the Iksar empire.

I wanted to see Kunark as it was, full of lush vegetation, wondrous, collosal monuments attesting to the might of the empire everywhere you look, and splendid, palacial cities rather than the blasted, blighted, and ruined place that it has become.

They wouldn't necessarily have to let me rewrite history to make me happy with such a game, but I certainly wouldn't complain about having the option to lay the smackdown on the Ring of Scale.

Kunark and Velious would be cool maybe add PoP in there as the PoF and PoF was to the original world of EQ

I just heard about this one yesterday.

http://www.guildwars.com/

After learning the game and building up your first character, you may choose to test your skills in head-to-head competition or guild warfare. The game is designed to reward player skill and teamwork, not time spent playing, so you won't need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your character to compete.

Its not out yet, but supposedly in the alpha testing stages, with a release sometime this year.

Sounds way more friendly to the casual player.

Will there be a monthly fee for Guild Wars?

No, there will not be a monthly subscription fee of any kind, anywhere in the world.

More I read that site the more it sounds like the hoax "Dawn" was.

Pssshhh someone needs a history lesson.

(Here it is to the best of my recollection. Can post a link to the lore later, if I can find it...)

The Iksar were well on their way to world conquest before the intervention of the dragons. So great were their works, and so mighty was their empire that the Ring of Scale itself, which did not ordinarily deign its attention to the affairs of the mortal races, took notice. No mere feat that.

There were some members who felt, and rightly so, that the Iksar posed a threat to dragonkind even in its lofty stronghold on the Peak of Veeshan. Of course, not all of the ring were convinced of this. Certainly the Iksar had established the mightiest empire Norrath had seen since that of the Shissar, which were struck down by the gods whose own power they rivaled, but these Dragons were ancients and not likely to change their long-held belief in their unassailability, especially by those of mortal ilk.

Several dragons were conviced that the Iksar posed a dire threat, and, against the wishes of the majority of the ring, proceeded to act against the upstart empire. Those who were not destroyed in the ensuing battles were banished from the ring and cut off from all contact with dragonkind as punishment, or worse (in the case of Jaled Dar) for their disobediance.

The rebel dragons struck in a series of craven surprise attacks, like that which destroyed the Iksar naval fleet as it sailed across the Timorous Deep to begin its conquest of Faydwer, and culminated in the clash that formed what we know as the Field of Bone.

Caught off of their guard as they were, the Iksar still made an impressive showing for themselves. In a straight-up fight, the victory might well have gone to the Iksar, and the outcome of history would have been much changed.

Guild Wars already had an open Alpha Test, and has some pretty known talent there. Its definitely not a hoax.

Forget RPG's and get a copy of Quake III, or Unreal Tourny... play online - no raids, no levels, no quests.... just balls to the wall fragging... log on when you like and log off when you like... it's all good.

All thanks belongs to Ryujin over at Monkly-Business for taking the time to piece all of the fragmented lore together into a single, easily-accessible volume, and, of course, to Monkly-Business for providing a home for it and for being all around awesome.

There really ought to be a separate game (or series of them, if they were done well) set in Kunark, based on the old lore, and that allows you to progress through that lore yourself.

Would be great if the game picked up shortly after the Green Mist, while the Iksar were still a wandering, fragmented people. I suppose that the natural choice for protagonist of the first installment would be a young Venril Sathir.

It would chronicle his passage up from the trials of his youth, of his progression up through the ranks of his own tribe to that of tribal leader. As he continues to gain renown as leader of his own tribe, other tribes begin to unite under his banner, leading up to the eventual alliance of all five tribes, and the birth of the Iksar empire.

Only bad news there would be that certain classes, such as monks, sk's, and beasts would not yet exist as such, so if young Venril ever adventured with a party of his own, it would pretty much consist of warriors, shaman, and necros.

I suppose Venril's own "class" progression would be a lot like that of the main character in KoTOR. He begins life as a potent warrior, but later delves into the dark arts and becomes an adept sorceror as well.

Jesus, I think I'd cream my pants if they made a KoTOR clone like this. Maybe, for a single player game, designed for a powerful console like the Xbox (or even Xbox 2) and PC's, where you're not necessarily modeling characters so that low-end systems can view dozens and dozens of models on screen at a single time as to not lag to hell, they could actually make a good looking Iksar model that looks right, whose animations don't suck ass (I'm lookin' at you Luclin, butt-poke-2hb-designin' motherfuckers!), and who don't look like a god damned Ninja Turtle if they happen to be wearing a "plate" breastplate.

I'd really be happy if they used the original character models and animations, but made them more realistic looking (without being Luclin-graphics-gay). The original leather/cloth/chain designs are the best ever, and require no redesigning whatsoever. Just make them more detailed and 3-D instead of just being skins.

They should get some real professionals to do it though, like the folks who did KoTOR, and who are working on Jade Empire now (think a different team/ company is doing KoTOR 2...). I'm not convinced that SoE has it in them to do a project like this up right.

Edit: Why am I torturing myself like this? It'll never happen... maybe if I hit the lotto like the guys who came up with City of Heroes... /cry
