road trip!

Postby araby » Fri Jun 08, 2007 6:49 am

I have the week of the 4th off for vacation. Initially, I wanted to go see Ryan Adams play in Boston (Somerville) but tickets are not available, unless someone is nice enough to sell me one that was lucky enough to get them before the ticket sites gobbled them up.

In the meantime, I am interested in your suggestions. This is the first time in several years I have the luxury of taking off and going pretty much any place my random heart desires. I will be going solo and doing a lot of writing, reading, dancing and anything else my creative heart wants to express.

Where have you guys been? What have you seen? I was thinking Chicago-never been there. However, I wonder if it's magical enough for me...I thought of the mountains but I've been there, done that. I'm learning to be resourceful on my own, but I know a lot of you have travelled and seen things...what do you suggest??

Chicago is not really that "magical". I wouldn't go to Chicago.

You've been to DC right? That can be a pretty awesome solo trip. There are a TON of museums and the Georgetown / Adams Morgan nightlife is pretty good (on the weekends).

That and it's pretty close to you.

But if you want to go on a long road trip, go to San Diego or San Fransisco. If you go to San Diego you can go over to Tijuana for a day.

You can always go to Montreal too, Montreal is very awesome. It's about five hours from NYC.

The only idea I have so far, is to make my first stop in Nashville. I drove through there but didn't stop before. From there, I can pretty much go anywhere.

I have never been to DC. I definitely will put that on the agenda...and I haven't been to the West Coast since I was a little girl, so I would LOVE to see San Diego and San Fran.

I don't know if I have enough time for that, though, coming from SC. I can leave as early as the evening of the 28th and can come back as late as the evening of the 9th. Actually, that is probably enough time to get to the West Coast and back. this is getting exciting hehe.

I'd highly, highly recommend seeing DC if you haven't. You can get there in decent time from SC.

I have considered the price of gas these days and whether or not it even makes sense to take a road trip. I have never been to Europe and I did think about going there, but the word is that the lines for passports are very long and I could not get one this close to my travel dates. (I've asked.)

If I were you, I'd save the money in gas it would cost to get you to and from the west coast and I would apply that saved money toward a great trip to DC.

If you can...I'd bring your son as well. DC is a great parent/kid trip. If you just want some time to yourself without the kid, it will still make for an awesome time, especially since you have never been there.

I can meet you for Lunch or something in DC, except I don't think it's as great as everyone is making it out to be.

Because you have probably been there multiple times.

Living so close to NYC, I am desensitized to the "wow factor" of it, but that doesn't means someone who goes there for the first time isn't awestruck.

Well I won't argue that NYC isnt a better city than DC, but giving her situation, I would say that DC is probably a good idea. It's close to her, she's never been, she was just in boston and NYC so she should go to another city and hey...it's our nations capital, a person should go at least once. :dunno:

In order to have fun in Las Vegas you need to be willing to spend at least a thousand dollars a day. Or be a hot enough chick to get everything paid for.

She's golden then!

Have you thought about heading south and visiting Key West?

When I said "hot chick" I was referring to girls who are over 5'7, weigh 110 pounds, most of which can be attributed to their fake breasts and who frequent the pool area in skimpy bikinis and high heels.

Pensacola, Florida is my recommendation. Gulf beaches are amazing!

Who goes to Florida in the summer? Wait until February for Florida. The heat and humidity in Florida is oppressive this time of year.

I talked to Tyler about taking a trip to DC with me (funny you mention that) but he wasn't interested because he has already been..I didn't want to drag him along with me if he didn't want to go. I asked him (just now) again if he'd like to go and he said yes! I think he might not be too cool for me after all.

Neat...we're going to take this trip together. I'm glad I asked him again-not sure what changed his mind. Oh, he just said that it's because he thought we were flying there.

taxx let's have some lunch, and if anyone else is in my path I'll either /honk and /wave or we can spend some time together! I am so excited.

Not in Pensacola. We are just south of Alabama on the panhandle. It's beautiful here all year round no joke. I used to live in Duluth, MN and the humidity was FAR worse there. The beaches are AMAZING!

I have done the Gulf, in fact Destin was by far my favorite place to visit in Florida. The rest was pretty terrible. I've been to Orlando, Miami and Daytona. Destin wins.

Destin is great! It's very close to me. It's pensacola, but far more to do. Our beaches still win though =p
