help finding an opera song

I've been making Machinima movies for a while now and there is an opera song I haven't heard in a while that would fit nicely. It's pretty famous and I'm next to clueless when it comes to singers and such. All I remember is that it was sung by a male and I may have heard it in war movie (death scene/mourning type song). I'm sure it's probably one of the top 10 most recognizable opera type songs but i can't remember the name. Yeah it's pretty vague but I'm hoping someone might know or give some clues.

It may even be Pavarotti, I know it's a tenor. I just don't know what some of his more famous songs would be.

Opera isn't my speciality so I can't help you with specific song titles or shows for the most part, but knowing the artist is at least a start in the search. Your best bet for famous male vocals will be:

1) Rossini: He did the FIGARO! One, though I'd guess that's not it.

2) Leoncavallo: Pagliacci - that really sad/tragic one sung by the sad clown, lolz. Probably this one, it gets overused for melodramatic sequences.

I was under the impression he was looking for the piece itself, not a specific recording of a specific modern vocalist. They all composed famous male vocal opera pieces. *bonk*

Hmm none of those seem familiar from what i've seen. I'd almost tend to guess that the song is a bit more modern.

Try looking for "O Fortuna", I think that may be the one you're thinking of. It's by Wagner.

while we're speaking of opera, i'd love an mp3 of the song the old man hears at the end of "coffee and cigarettes" in the basement of the theatre

i know it's called "i've lost touch with the world" or something very similar, but i can't seem to find that version without buying the actual soundtrack ;\

Insanityfair found it. Now I know where I heard it from but it's been years ago. They use it as Carmela's theme in The Sopranos. I never noticed the female part though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_0FsKiS8rg&NR=1
