This forum kinda sucks till NFL Season starts

Where everyone discusses football, and two dorks try to pretend people actually like the NBA and spam what should be in PMs.

Correct.

Is climbing Everest a sport?
Running super-marathons?
Sailing across the Atlantic?
Racing the Iditarod?

I would argue that they are not sports by any means.

I think you have a fucked up view of what sports are then 10sun.

In that case basketball isnt a sport either. Which freakishly tall player can run up and down the court throwing the ball without getting tired first?

Add football to that list too then. Which overgrown man can go the longest without getting tired and causing him to get mangled by the other team?

*almost* all sports are endurance sports at the base.

I think the time frames, enviromental conditions, & risk play a key difference in what I consider a sport & what I consider an endurance competition.

If you want to tell me that what it takes physically & mentally to race the Iditarod is anywhere near the same as what it takes to play basketball, then I think you have no concept.

-----
Xaiveir, what set of rules/customs & what competition is there when climbing Everest? Don't die? Thats one hell of a custom.

Most people who go to climb Everest don't do it to break any records (I believe the current speed "record" is around 10 hours by a sherpa).

Most people who enter the Iditarod have no illusions about breaking a speed record, they are only attempting to survive & complete the race (a feat that most don't accomplish).

Racing the iditarod is not a sport it's an event. Sledding is what you wanna argue whether it is a sport or not and I think that falls under extreme sport like rock climbing does.
