Who knows if the guy is guilty or innocent, but if telling the alleged victim that calling it rape biases the jury what does the judge think calling it sex is going to do?

I agree....calling it sex sends a signal to the jury that it was consensual.

There are other ways to describe things without calling being as vanilla as "sex".

From what I have read, there simply is not enough evidence in the first place even though the dude sounds like a slimeball.

Well, the problem is it's his word against hers. Those cases are always loaded. There's really no other evidence here. It's hard to convict these types of cases.

It could be rape. It could not. The article tends to make me think it's not, since a girl who drinks four long island iced teas and then takes a strange man home, instead of going back with her friend, is responsible for herself. Plus the fact the dude stopped when she asked makes me wonder. Did they do a tox screen on her? That would be the best evidence, IMO.

judge cheuvront is usually pretty level-headed, but it does certainly sound suspicious

i bet cases like this are judges' least favorite-- he-said/she-said can't be easy ;\

Sounds like this woman woke up to someone she normally wouldn't have gone home with. Instead taking the jokes from her friends, she said this guy drugged and raped her. That way she saves face. So, she ruins some innocent guy's life to save some embarrassment for herself.

Women that cry rape like this ruin it for women that it really happens to.
