who would be interested in playing a UO based MMO?
I'm starting to seriously consider trying to run a UO shard of my own
my brother and a friend did it for a while, and it was pretty fun
UO is a bit cumbersome compared to some of the modern MMO's but it has some awesome features that still don't exist in newer games (way better magic system, player owned housing, player owned stores, awesome crafting, etc)
it's (ideally) going to be fairly heavily modified and I'd really like to incorporate some of the oldschool EQ lore, and maybe even some old nameless lore (kinda like how some of it shows up in WoW)
would anyone here actually play? would anyone maybe be willing to help out down the road? (script/quest writing assuming this doesn't fucking suck)
there's the distinct possibility that it'll blow, but it might be fun too

Did anyone play Ultima 7? I remember I was like 12 or something and found it randomly at a Sam's and begged Mom to buy it. She finally did and I never could quit playing that game. I even found the disk for it a while back, but it was for DOS. I was so young I couldnt figure the game out very well, but I would give anything to figure out how to get it wo work on this machine and stuff, but Im a computer idiot ><

I don't have NWN2, and it's still not really set up to be a MMO without a LOT of work
most of the stuff I want to do is already built into the UO engine (plus there is 10 years worth of shit for it I can borrow)
Alright have fun, don't expect more than a handful of people to play that old ass engine though.

there's a lot of stuff built into UO already that I want to do, I'm familiar with UO, and it's just more fun than NWN, simple as that
Tikk, it sounds like you are familiar with UO, but not NWN2. For what you want, NWN2 would be pretty easy to get up to speed with, and enable you to do much, much more.
There's a ton of modules, instructions, and it is built for a small online grouping.
It also can hold 64 people pretty easily if you have the bandwidth and horsepower.

I don't really want a huge number of folks, and I'm not really interested in catering to the purty graphix crowd anyway
and Lyion, what I'm looking for are people who are semi familiar with the old UO, and want to play that again. I've played NWN (and NWN2) and didn't really care for them
UO is quite a bit more expansive in what you can do with it

there isn't going to be EQ/WOW style questing
it would be a lot more open, more along the lines of how EQ stuff was supposed to be
you'd hear a rumour of something, and from there go to investigate. it's not going to have a ton of repeatable content
ie, if you kill the boss of dungeon hythloth, he's not going to magically respawn 7 days later
in theory I want to flesh out the "bad guys" and give the lizards, orcs, ogres, etc reason to exist
ie, they will be invading the cities and whatnot
