Actually , I'd say more like 35% of the material isn't his. It just so happens that 35% worth of material is the 100% of actual humor.

Even if that is true why does it matter? His job is to make me laugh and he does his job very well.

Every comedian steals jokes. Find a successful comic, from Robin Williams to Denis Leary, and you have a guy who has borrowed liberally from others.

All that matters is if people find them funny, and if so, whatever.

p.s. I don't care for Dane Cook, but the 'he steals material' claim is lame.

I've watched a lot of stand up from the late 70s until now, the material isn't as important as how it's presented by the comedian.

If I was some over-analyzing cunt-rag, I'm sure I could come up with some ridiculous list of what was stolen from who in relevance to the time period it was presented.

I am not however, and so we have another thread where people are uptight vaginas.

Why are you guys talking about Dane Cook, when Jessica Alba was also mentioned?

I don't buy that for one minute. There are plenty of genius comedians out there who come up with nothing but original material. Not only that, but the fact that any comedian has to go out there and plagarize material and claim it as their own is a disgrace to comedy. Richard Pryor didn't steal material. Paul Mooney didn't steal material. Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, David Attell, Lenny Bruce, Robert Schimmel, etc etc are all reputable comedians who do NOT steal anyone's material. Yeah, presentation is important, but part of being a comedian is writing jokes and if they aren't writing them, they should be sending a royalty check to the originator and giving due credit.

eh, chris rock is richard prior junior

that being said, I kinda agree with lyion for once
presentation is a HUGE part of what actually makes standup funny. there really isn't a whole lot of completely unique/new humour

    99% of everything is recycled

    HA!

i agree, i think Dane Cook's delivery IS his humor/schtick...

as opposed to someone like Bill Cosby, who's stand up in the 60's and 70's was genuine personal material and brilliant...

same with Eddie Murphy in 80's, Raw and Delirious were legit.... though now he is some sad shell of who we was....
