So, someone read an article in a paper in Japan and then passed that news along to a reporter who then passed it on to another newspaper which then posted it on the web and it has now made it's way to the NT.

It must be true!

I agree with toss but have some "facts" of sorts to back it up.

If he lost he left leg, he couldn't shift his bike (this was a motorcycle I thought), if he lost he right leg he couldn't use the hard rear break.

I'm not a biker but I got two guys I work with that ride in all he time. When I mentioned this to them they both thought it was BS.

This of course assumes that the "next junction" was 10 feet in front of his pack.

You could shift with one leg, you're only able to shift with one leg, and some people don't even use the rear brake (they're noobs but anyone who runs into a barrier and loses a leg fits into this category).

I didn't re-read it before my post but I wasn't sure if he lost his left or right. So if the left was gone so does goes the gear shifter, while the right is gone, so goes the break, but you're right and the guys mentinoed that, alot of folks don't use the rear break.

I thought automatic bikes didnt require the use of a shifter, and they are becoming more and more popular.

They might make up .5% of the entire population.
