Renting

So, I have to find a new place to live. I rented for a year with a friend. Some good things some bad. I'm meeting with a company to view this out today at lunch. Any recommendations on what to ask/make sure to go over?

Are you still doing the roommate thing? Just curious why a single guy is getting a 3 bedroom/2 bath place?

Looks decent. If you're signing a one year deal, I wouldn't worry about too much.

That house would rent for like $700 a month here. Also better find out what fees aren't included in that rental price.

This kid just got a raise and is already out trying to move and stuff, I gaurantee he doesn't control his money well.

I disagree with buying a house. If there's any chance of you leaving the area, which there should be given your age, then buying a house will cost more in the long run. Also, he probably doesn't have any money to put down, which is rough for first mortgages for people without a ton of credit.

Also, price differences for places should be taken into account. 950 rent isn't a big deal if one is making decent coin with few bills.

950 rent here is low-normal for a 1BR. Perhaps buying houses there is far more expensive than renting is, kinda like here. When I go back to work, I'll probably get a place that runs $1500ish a month to rent, but I'd have to be able to afford 2x that at LEAST, plus have a big downpayment to even buy a 1 BR condo, which'd run me 500k+. Not to mention, with the mortgage market in flux right now (hell, financial report last week was saying it's possible Countrywide is going under), it's a shitty time to ask for a loan.

Maybe not a house but you could definately own a condo of some sort. Also, with roomates paying his mortgage what does he have to lose?

or maybe I'd rent something smaller with the mind to save up for the downpayment for a house

unless you live in Detroit, you can pretty much never go wrong buying as opposed to renting

here where I live, if I bought a house I'd have to live in an area I'd be unhappy in. By renting I can live in the area I love. I know it's smarter to buy but, that's my conondrum.
