Soreness

Postby Kitao » Wed Aug 22, 2007 6:09 pm

I started working out for the first time in about five years, so I decided to go at it slowly.
But after working out the biceps, my left inner arm, opposite the elbow, has tightened up terribly and now straightening it out is decently painful as are many household tasks.
Anyone experience this? It has been two days..

Maybe just some Tylenol and some stretching ?

do some stretches, get some aleeve. Try to take a wet towel put in microwave til hot, and let it steam heat the muscles around the elbow.

Is it true that you should drink less water? Doesn't it make your muscles hurt more or something. I heard that less water or rather a moderation of water is best for workout pains.

Meh I think it's a BS thing from muscle and fiction and other magazines. Drinking less water will cause more soreness in the long run - the more dehydrated you get the more likely you are to experience back and joint pains.

I just started working out after five months. I had to take a break due to an elbow injury. I wasn't able to straighten my left arm for three days. Don't worry about it. It's painful, but it will go away.

Your forearm muscle and your elbow are two completly different things. Calling forearm soreness an elbow injury is like saying a hangnail was a broken hand. And more often than not, not being able to straiten your arm isnt about your forearm but the ligaments being damaged in the elbow joint area.

I still stand by my statement.

ugh i went jogging yesterday and then went to a club last night and danced like a bastard and my legs are super-sore today. i wish i was stretchier!

in other news, i finally FINALLY made an appointment to see a doctor about my numb running feet . . . don't know why it took me so long (OK i do--i hate doctors) but hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of it. i just hope it doesn't involve surgery :(

i've tried brooks, nike, new balance, and asics over the years (and i don't tie them too tight or buy them too small--i got fitted at a running store); this has been something that's happened on and off since high school that i largely ignored since i never actually ran, but when i started trying to be a runner (failing miserably thus far haha) i find that i can't go for more than 15-20 minutes before my feet go numb. it's happened on treadmills, sidewalks, streets, tracks, basketball courts, whatevs. i really don't know what to make of it so i'm hoping this sports-specialist physician can figure it out. we'll see.

Its circulation - probably either tight IT band or somewhere in the ankle...

They are hard to explain but if you have some time, look for IT band stretching... I had the same sort of problem for a while

Gotta take things slow bro, most of the time, while being new to working out, your entire right side of your upper body will be stronger than your left. Your lats, biceps, triceps, everything. So if you over work your left side of your body to try and match your right, the soreness will follow accordingly. The specific part you're talking about is normal, especially if you do a lot of sets of seated row or one armed row etc for the first couple times, but it only will happen a few times, then that part will almost be never sore again. You use it on almost every upper body lift so it will eventually get trained to be one of the most used muscles in your arms.

It will last a few days, just go back after it's done healing and hit it hard again, you won't be sore after the third workout.

Edit: You won't be sore after the third workout in that part of your body. You should be sore for atleast 2 days after, if you're taking protein and eating healthy to keep your body in check.

You're not quite getting it.... I injured my elbow when I fell during a footsaul match. I had to stop weight lifting for 5 months as a result. When I finally started again I got so sore that I couldn't straighten my arm out.

Maybe you should learn to communicate better...

I had to stop lifting from an elbow injury....then stating well i had forearm soreness, never once stating that the injury was from something outside the gym...would lead most people to believe you got hurt while lifting...

Your original statement, as is, leads me to believe you had an elbow injury after 5 months of working out again... not I fucked up my arm doing something else and had to take 5 months off. Had you stated that at all I would have said oh that sucks.

But to say I am not getting it - as 1. I could give two fucking shits about you and follow the play by play in your life 2. You never stated that in the entire thread until I call you stupid twice * either way proving my point*

what's footsaul?
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.
