(CNN) -- At one point in Jared Hutchins' young life, the Beatles were a big problem.


The rallies, which draw mostly teens, are one part concert, one part Christian revival.

"I had to stop listening to them for a while," said Hutchins, who lives in Cumming, Georgia, and plays the piano, guitar and harmonica. He said the group's world view "had a negative effect on me," and made him irritable and angry.

"God owns my life, not the Beatles," he said simply. Although Hutchins said he enjoys a wide range of music -- from Pink Floyd and Arcade Fire to Christian bands such as Hillsong United -- he said he has to be careful of what music he listens to, for the same reason he temporarily turned off the Beatles.

I think it's rather extreme to say the beatles are 'evil.' I can understand why people would want to rally against the pop culture though. The culture as a whole does have a negative effect on youth.

On a side note ... I love Hillsong as well =)

You're a poster child for everything that's wrong with kids these days. How exactly do you think you're in a position to judge anyone?

don't detect any person being judged...

sounds like he is judging the overall effect of a culture.

i certainly agree that the vast majority of what is produced by our culture is vapid and rarely goes beyond going after what you want in the moment without accountability....

all said, i grew up in that rigid and fearful culture, outside Houston in a southern baptist church

it doesn't acknowledge one very important point.

EVERYONE has the ability to manage choice and everyone is smart/strong enough to decide what they want, and everyone at some point will fuck up and everyone can make it back to a better place WITHOUT having to run away from it or create a mental and physical compound to try and keep it out.

i feel sorry/sad for people like that because they live in fear of their own inability to be "perfect".
when perfect means nothing and will get you nowhere.
