HD vs Blu-Ray

The nerds Blu-Ray disks will still play in their PS3's so it's not a big deal for them to spend $99 on a new player to play the content the PS3 won't play.
BTW, Blu-Ray sales suck ass no matter what Sony wants the world to think.

More importantly, how many people do you know with a PS2? People with a PS2 library, sooner or later are much, much more likely to upgrade to a PS3. That number is well over 100 million.
Nobody I know is buying a new DVD player. Most people have no clue in regards to the HD/Bluray thing. Most people don't care. The main people buying Hidef movies are technophiles and PS3 owners. The number of PS3 owners will exponentially grow faster, and fight the 360. The difference is almost nobody will spend the extra cash on the 360 HD add on.
The group with the widest distribution of players will win the HD market. Very, very few people are buying HD or Bluray stand alone players. People are still buying 360s and PS3s. Many gamers are buying BOTH. Asia will be buying the PS3, and as you can see from WOW and it's winning of the MMO market, their market share is very important.
Bluray has a better strategy right now, and the only thing holding it back is the PS3 market share growing. However, I have no doubt it will grow and help.
Also, there's that small thing about Sony owning 1/2 the market, and not just 150 million 18 month stopgap deals.

How many people do I know with a PS2? Maybe 12? Of those 12, NONE of them watch movies on it. How many people do I know with a DVD player? Everyone I know has one and most people have several because they are cheap.
The 360 has NOTHING to do with the HD "war". People buy a 360 to play games on just like they buy a PS3 to play games on (ha!). You are confusing two different "wars". The PS3 is possibly strong enough to eventually beat out the 360 in the "console war" but will never have the market penetration it needs to push a new format on the masses.
Sony doesn't own 1/2 the market, there was no $150m 18 month deal. Asia will not be buying the PS3 as a movie playback device. (with the exception of possibly Japan). Do some real research before you post bullshit.

1 and change million US players, vs 600k or so EQ2 players doesn't sound as good if you don't add the 5+ Million Asian ones to me.
The lions share of WOW accounts are Azn.
Thos numbers aren't even close. Last report I saw had 2.2 million north american accounts, 1.5 Euro, 3.5 Asian and the rest were austrialian etc.
North America broke 1 million accounts back in 2005.

thisis where you're really wrong on a lot of fronts
tons of folks use their Ps2's for watching movies (I know I did originally)
lots of people are buying 360's just as extenders, and never put games in them (sounds weird, but it's true)
you a huge fucking retard if you think the 360 vs PS3 is NOT a major front on the format war, as well as the console war
Ugh... yeah... I'm somehow wrong that none of the people I know watch movies on their PS2? How the fuck do you know? I'd like to see some figures that show people buying 360's as extenders and not putting games in them. Show me please. I'd also like to see some figures that show the 360 as a MAJOR front in the format war. Considering it doesn't play HD disks without buying an addon, I think you are full of shit. The addon works perfectly with XP as well but MOST people do not have HTPC's or 360's to utilize the drive so no, it's not a major front. It's chicken feed just like the PS3 is at this point. Near zero market penetration.
I tend to agree with your logic Tossica, I just you're ignoring the effect all these people who have already decided on a format will have on the market.
If someone wants to buy a new DVD player, they'll likely do a bit of research. If they see Blu-Ray is outselling HD 2-1, they'll probably go with blu-ray even though the name is lame and the player is 50$ more.

No, I'm not ignoring it. Blu-Ray is here to stay but will never have the market penetration necessary to push a new format on the masses.
The entry level Blu-Ray players are twice as much as the HD-DVD players, not $50 more.
Ginzburgh wrote:BTW, Blu-Ray sales suck ass no matter what Sony wants the world to think.
As I said earlier, Blu-Ray out sells HD-DVD 70/30, so if Blu-Ray sales "suck ass" I guess that means HD-DVD sales are pretty abysmal.
Ugh... why do you keep arguing with me if you have you haven't even read anything I've posted? Yes, sales of BOTH formats have sucked. That's been my entire point. BOTH formats are selling for shit so don't buy in to the BLU-RAY WINS HD WAR hype and bullshit because that's all it is. Neither format is going away any time soon but neither format will do much if anything for sales until next year. The title sales for both formats are still in the UMD range or LESS and we all know how well that went for Sony. Toshiba is poised to crack in to the mass market long before Sony will and in the past, this has been the deciding factor for "format wars".
Sony is enjoying a nice lead since the PS3 was released because ALL you can do is watch movies on it since the game content sucks so bad. People are buying a Blu-Ray movie here and there so they don't feel like dipshits for buying a $600 doorstop.
That's my prediction.

I don't have any actual numbers, but go to a forum like thegreenbutton.com and you'll see a lot of folks that have multiple 360's they use solely as extenders
there's also lots of actual MS people who post there, and they seem to think that a fair portion of 360's sold are used exclusively as extenders
ps, i'm not commenting on what your dumbass friends are doing, since if they're anything like you, there're nowhere near the frontline of anything
time stopped for you in 1978 didn't it?

Why do you give a shit who "wins" in the end when the only benefit is accredited to the consumer in the end?
Because I am a music and film media collector and I find the outcome interesting. Please stay the fuck out of the thread. It's obvious you have zero to contribute to the subject as usual, you fucking chode.

Thought so.

That shit wasn't funny 2 years ago when Finawin used it and it's just as not funny now! Good one!
