do you give? how much do you give? is it 10%, less or more?

I'm listening to glenn beck, who's cracking me up right now. He's talking about the difference in what the religions are required to tithe.

Since I do not belong to any faith I don't give to churches but I could...among other things. I need to start doing this.

Thoughts?

Be thankful for Glenn Beck. Without him Colbert would have no material.

Give what you comfortably can afford to give. Also, if you're looking for a worthwhile charity, you might want to consider:

I never give to churches, not because I'm a christian hater.. but because there are so many churches in the world who take that money and add needless things to the church, evangelist style. I don't care how much you love jesus, you do not need 7 TV's in the corners of your church larger than the 2 I have in my house, and you certainly don't need it in HD.

I give to make a wish usually, via contributing money to the bowling thing that yall saw a couple years ago or just a straight check. how much I give depends on if i'm broke or not

I really think Glenn Beck is hilarious sometimes...even if I don't agree with a lot of what he says. When he starts making fun of something, he just gets on a role and it will make me laugh pretty hard.

Just now he was talking about the muslims tithing 2.5% vs. christians 10% and he joked about how Lending Tree's slogan is "when banks compete you win" and said "when gods compete, you win" hahaha

I give to Diabetes research and a few other childrens foundations when I have the money to give. I dont have a set amount or a set number of times a year.

I gave at my old church because I knew the money was going straight to our missionaries, there have been very few remodels of the church since I've been there.

I'd much rather volunteer my time to something I think is a good cause rather than money

cause at least if it's my time, and I'm there, I know that it was worthwhile, rather than hoping they spend my money wisely

well I'm pretty selfish with my time. I think I'd rather give money, it'd make me happy. I've decided to give to random places from now on, every paycheck. It will kinda be like going to the random support groups in Fight Club, except I'll just give some money.

Whereis I dislike giving out personal info, I have no problems telling you my favorite charity. St Jude's does amazing work, and takes every severely sick kid.

http://www.stjude.org/

Supporting ones local parish is good, but supporting St Jude's is equally worth it and in my opinion is the best charity there is

I give $10-15 here and there as I can afford and something strikes my fancy. Usually to the local police or firefighters, MS Society, or the local human society.

My neighbors keep trying to get us to go to their church. Their latest 'hook'? They have 4 Xbox 360s (and supposedly 100 games..I'm sure multiples were counted) in the teen rec room. What a colossal waste of church funds...

the only thing I've been giving lately is my leftover food I don't want to carry into a bar after I've left a restaurant, so I leave it outside the door where a homeless person will pick it up or- I just hand it to them.

I don't think I like the church idea..martrae makes a good point and ashley too...they might not do the right thing with the money.

I'll look into the ones you guys posted and some more online.

I know when I lived in Ohio there was a really good homeless shelter in Akron that wasn't 'just' a shelter. They did job training and detox and counseling and all sorts of other services (like finding clothes for people to go to interviews in). I never had any issues at all with giving to them. Perhaps you could find a place like that near you?

exactly. another good one is the alzheimers association.. obviously i'm a bit partial to that one because of my gramma, though.

Give generously, all you can. Our lord Jesus will reward you.

May I recommend Yamori's awesome totally legit charity for totally tragic sick kids suffering from the terrible combination of AIDS and cyclopsism?? We now accept paypal at our newly registered HOTMAIL account. With your most generous donation we can extend our treatments to children afflicted with lycanthropy in the poorer parts of Africa. :(

I do when there is a drive or whatever, and I donate a dollar a pay period to the Homer fund which matches donations for employees who need whatever. They gave me money for my son's surgery, our HR guy just got into an accident and he was scalped, so we donated money to him and his family, one of my employees fell and broke her elbow so she went in for x rays and they found cancer,(the reason I quit smoking 7 months ago) we raised a ton of money for her and they matched it.

Its nice giving to someone or something and actually being able to see the funds go to someone you know.

I give to United Way and the MD research at Hopkins. Also donate one afternoon a week to the big brother program and go to local school and help out.

People who torture and abuse animals should be punished severely. That sounds like a worthy cause, Jennay.

I am doing some charity work for the MDA right now. Its a pretty fun event, on Sept 20th i get "arrested" at work and taken downtown. The money i raised for the event is my "bail". We get catered food, and meet some MD kids and hang out with them.

If anyone is interested in donating here is my website link for it...
