similar concept yep - it's like what would happen if ravioli and potstickers had a baby and named it pierogi.

PS I don't deep fry mine.. I saute them in garlic butter. And like Tikk, I roll out the big dough and cut it with the rim of a cup.

and OMG dont boil them! frying or baking is teh best. I have even saute'd them in some butter yum.

no these are not the health concious way of preparing them

frying perogy is blasphemy

and fruit/dessert perogy can be awesome

I've actually made breakfast ones that turned out pretty good

potato, cheese, little egg, some bacon

you sir are on herion. try it before you knock it. I learned to do this from an old girlfriend of mine she was polish and her mom used to make these by hand and fry them. not deep fry mind you. you are only using about 1/2 of EVOO or Canola.

Jennay you do not have to boil them first and margerine = oil, same principal just less P.H.O's using EVOO

Frying them is very good (saute would be a better description). I don't boil mine, just fry them up with some evoo and butter, about half a baseball sized onion, maybe some green pepper too. I don't like any of them except the potato ones though, and Mrs T's are pretty good.

Living in MI, there is a polish market downriver, Hamtramic(sp) for the "locals", you get the best home made ones there. Only get those once or twice a year though.

Boiled store bought ones are great, but fried home made perogi's are pure goodness.

Definitely do not knock it until you try it.

Sounds very like the Knish's you get in New York. OMFG, even the knish's you get from streetside hot dog carts are so good. So bad for you, I am sure, but soooo good. I just found a real NYC bakery that does knish's and will send them packed in dry ice anywhere in the country. I am going to be having to order some soon, been far too long since I had a real knish.
