Rith-
My point was that I read that statement by Vod and couldn't believe how absurd it was. First, nobody is "forced" to bid on anything. Are people encouraged to? Sure- nobody likes seeing loot rot. Do recruits get encouraged more? Probably- in general thier gear is crap and the rotting loot provides huge upgrades for them for lower dkp cost then if they waited for the "uber" drops. But a lot of the time full time, veteran members pass on loot until they see it officially "rot" then will bid on it just so it doesn't go to waste.
Sorry if I offended you by the "ntov" comment- wasn't intended that way. To be honest, we'd be happy if all of our recruits came full ntov equipped. In reality, most have an assortment of bazaar bought equipment that is completely inadequate to survive the first 30 seconds of many of the encounters. Guilds nowadays go through a lot to get recruits backflagged and such just to be able to attend the raids- this didn't used to be that way. I don't think it's unreasonable for a guild to want it's recruits to upgrade their gear as fast as possible just so they can survive and do the job they were recruited to do.
Guess it all comes down to perspective. Some people would look at looting 10 items like this http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=22536 and think- awesome!! Other people see it and apparently are upset that they didn't get a Quarm drop. I didn't go add it up and don't know what her magelo is, but I'd be willing to bet that Vodia had more Time loot then most people in the guild, including long term members. In general, our newer members are all at the top of the list simply because everything there is huge upgrades for them.
Bitching about being "forced" to upgrade your gear? C'mon- that's just dumb. OMG THOSE EVIL EUPHORIANS RECRUIT PEOPLE THAT ARE STUCK SEVERAL EXPANSIONS BEHIND, BACKFLAG THEM, AND THEN MAKE THEM REPLACE ALL THEIR DROPPABLE GEAR WITH SOME OF THE BEST ITEMS IN THE GAME! Oh, the horror.

Ok, my question is, if the stuff is rotting anyway, does it really matter about DKP?
Rotting stuff doesn't benefit anyone.

Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.
True.
Too bad the rotting stuff can't be turned in for gems like Hate and Fear gear.

I haven't found any no drop stuff you can tribute yet.

Some of us don't raid to just get loot... for me, personally, it's the experience of being somewhere I have never been before. When I got to Time - I was more concerned with seeing it then looking up the loot tables (which I have yet to do, btw).
Don't be so quick to judge that just because someone is in a raiding guild that they're only motivation is "self-gratification via loot". There are other aspects of the raiding game that some players value more.

Any person that runs up a bar tab they had no intention of paying then skips town to find another bar when the barkeep hands them the bill...sucks!
Rith you have some good points but I'm gonna disagree with you about DKP, anyone with a basic understanding of bookeeping and a calculator could figure out if the system was being manipulated, it ain't rocket science. The DKP spreadsheet we use is quite good and shows all the variables, kudos Vonk for making that so.
There are some things you are not privi too, and Vodia's struggle to change the loot awarding system in posts on our board is one of those. What we have here is a case of be careful what you wish for...
In essence what Vodia was saying was unfair is that raids were undervalued while items were overpriced and that newer members were bearing the burden of this. A point that I, and quite a few other longer standing members agreed with and lobbied to change. But what to do about that exactly to be fair to as many members as possible?
What came of it was a compromise, raid values were raised, item prices were dropped...BUT, you were now enjoined to pay off the items already purchased before you would get more...no more extended credit into oblivion because we, the people that have never been in neg points, the people that have always been patient and waited our turn at an upgrade to our character, the people that beat our brains out beating the ele planes to get to Time in the first place said..'hey, you wanna dance to the tune, you gotta pay the piper'...k?
It's really not that hard to be in Euphoria. When you join you are coming into a social organization that is as interested in it being as fun and benificial to you as it is for us. But, as any society has there are certain rudimentry expectations. One of those is that you will show us commitment to our goals as a group and in return we will afford you the oppourtunity to improve your character. But what became out of whack was that newer members who 'hadn't earned their stripes' so to speak, were handed goodies that they had never earned and some never intended to stick around to pay them off.
There is no doubt that for many and perhaps all of the people that play EQ the PH4T L3WTZ are the carrot on the end of the stick. The only variable is at what level you play the game, you may be a casual player that kills hill giants to make plat to buy stuff in bazaar or you may be in the top Guild on the server that shows up everyday to a raid and gives 110% to get your next carrot.
In my opinion Vodia and others simply got too much too soon and when it was cut off she rebelled. Then she recanted but never got over the stigma...the facts are this...She is not a 'loot whore' she paid off her debt. She is a fine player and a pretty nice person overall, but she couldn't find it within herself to make the commitment and carry on like so many of us, without whom, she would have never been in Time to begin with. And she states that quite clearly "AWWWWWW fuck it"....She got what she wanted and left because of it. Some people are hurt and angry about that, I'm not one of them but niether is she it seems...
As far as her account being manipulated I am somewhat unconvinced that this is the case and and very sure the person accused of it had no part. If the investigation shows that this was the case, no matter who it was, I would hope they would be tarred, feathered and run outta town on a rail.
EQ is a funny game and an even funnier social expierience. C'est la vie~
