Gore wins Nobel peace prize

Postby Phlegm » Fri Oct 12, 2007 11:41 am

It has been a good year for Gore. An Oscar and now the peace prize.

Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and lay the foundations for counteracting it.

"His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change," the Nobel citation said. "He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted."

It cited Gore's awareness at an early stage "of the climatic challenges the world is facing."

This was probably the most absurd nobel prize ever given. I just need to laugh, and laugh loud at it.

I wish the guy would run for president. Seriously, it's like winning a fistfight and then the crowd claiming you lost. Wouldn't you want to come back and show everyone that you kicked ass and could do so again? Also...I can't help but wonder what the world would be like today had he won...

Not sure what global warming has to do with peace....
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

Yea it is absurd, Gore doesn't hold a candle to previous winners like Jimmy Carter and Yasser Arafat. Perhaps it was kinda like giving an "A" for effort, although I doubt he'll ever achieve the massive death destruction, and hardship that the other two managed.

Was that meant to be sarcastic? Jimmy Carter might have not done much as a pres but he was great after his presidency.

Indeed, I am quite sure that his efforts of personally physically working on raising houses for Habitat for Humanity and his work on verifying free elections around the world have caused massive anguish and suffering around the planet...

No, he wasn't good at managing the US economy, and his response to the Iranian hostage crisis left something to be desired. But the man has been one of the greatest EX-presidents we've ever had.

The chairman of the Nobel Committee flatly admitted that it was given not based on his merit but based on a desire to snub the Bush Administration, and of course he accepted it knowing this. But hey that is Carters MO, undermine the United States government and the efforts of the executive branch of government. If in your mind that is justified by the current administration, consider that he pulled the same general types of shenanigans during Clinton's presidency.

Carter consistently speaks to the character or is friends with people like Yasser Arafat, Kim Il Sung, Nicolae Ceausescu, and Fidel Castro and or takes the side of groups like the PLO or Hamas. Basically he runs around trying to add legitimacy to dictatorial governments, repressive regimes, and terrorist groups. The idea that he is one of our greatest ex-presidents is laughable.

Nobel peace prize is a joke

Postby dammuzis » Sun Oct 14, 2007 7:31 am

just by giving the peace prize to either yasser arafat or henry kissinger is proof that the prize is given to just about anyone as long as they are politically correct at the time of the awarding

It's like honorary doctorates.
