the banning of happiness is out of control
at a school in Illinois they banned hugging and a 13 year old got into trouble.
cupcakes are banned now..I saw this on The Daily Show but hadn't heard the real story and didn't know how much if any of it was true though so I googled it. just google cupcake ban (if you haven't read/heard the story) and read about it. yahoo has a video on their home page right now about the hugging ban.
I'm pretty much feeling like a student at Hogwarts when Dumbledore got replaced by Umbridge. What is going on?

Great, now they're teaching kids that affection is 'dirty'.

Kinda far from the topic but
An elementary school out here bans all peanut products because ONE kid has an allergy. WTF? Now the kids can't have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or eat any crackers made in a place with peanuts used because it can be "airborne". (Whale crackers rock and they're forbidden now too.)

They didn't ban just cupcakes. Yvonne Sanders-Butler, an Elementary School principal in Lithonia, GA, has banned refined sugar completely back in 1999. Within a year student disciplinary problems dropped, visits to the school nurse dropped, and math and reading scores improved by 15%. Case studies show that without the sugar, kids are more attentive.
Same thing with alot of the schools down here in Texas. Remember my post a few months ago about finding a healthy snack? Lunches bought at school, brought into school, and dsnacks have to be healty. No junk food. In the morning on the way to school, I give my son a Go Tart because lunch is only 3 hours away once he gets to school. I was told he either ate it at home or bought a lunch breakfast. They will, however, let them bring in cooklies and cupcakes (as long as they aren't homemade) for birthdays and holiday parties.
AS far as the hugging thing, I think its a little extreme, but I can see where it stems from. Any physical contact can be constrewed (sp?) as sexual harassment, and no school needs those kinds of lawsuits.

No.
Physical affection is something humans should not survive without..not HUGS!
I don't think you teach kids anything this way. I don't think you teach kids anything by banning foods!
always with the extremes...

oops I skipped your post.
I don't know about the peanut allergy issue..that's an allergy-it's different.
On topic though, cupcakes are a treat and because adults don't know how to do things in moderation children certainly don't (they learn from us, btw) and what kind of message are kids getting when you completely take something away as opposed to..maybe..teaching them how to appreciate treats in moderation?

hahahah that's hilarious.
Re: the banning of happiness is out of control
More like insane. Maybe if they keep doing rediculous shit like this the straw will break the camel's back and we can end the politcally correct bullshit that has destroyed civilization as we knew it.

Re: the banning of happiness is out of control
How exactly has "politcally correct bullshit destroyed civilization as we knew it"?
Re: the banning of happiness is out of control
Oh no you don't. I'm not getting sucked into one of your god damn bleeding heart liberal arguments.
We already know all too well how if it was up to you we'd all be perfect little politally correct automatons.
The country was better off before we tried to satisfy every little fucking crybaby sector. Anyone that disagrees can kiss my ass.

Re: the banning of happiness is out of control
Overt political correctness is completely misguided and disingenuous, but at worst, it's just silliness. I don't see how someone trying to be too polite is the cause for the downfall of modern civilization.
The opposite seems much more harmful to me.

Re: the banning of happiness is out of control
The main problem is it's 'political' correctness. It's all lip service since no one really means it.
Basically, it boils down to people bowing down to the biggest bully and saying whatever the bully wants in an effort to not get pounded.
It also is the worst form of worrying about what other people think.

Re: the banning of happiness is out of control
But no one should be truly offended by an abundance of political correctness. It's just stupid.
The opposite, which would be for everyone to be socially insensitive, seems far more harmful.
It's just not an issue to me. It's not something to get worked up about.

Political-correctness has been taken too far, and that is annoying as hell.

But it's not REAL. If people truly felt that way it would be one thing. Most are just doing it to "keep up with the Jones'". They really could care less.

I agree. It is, for the most part, completely useless and silly. Having said that, how does it harm you?
How is it responsible for the downfall of humanity?

I never said it was.

The problem with todays PC is it's limited in scope and not applied equally across demographics. It also is not a good, standardized PC based on culture and etiquette, but a revolving bad one based on media coverage and Al Sharpton.
