Christmas Present...

Post by 10sun »

So I just got the phone call letting me know which relative I had to get a gift for this year (we do a Secret Santa thing where each of us gets a relative over the age of 13 to get a gift, family tradition because it is cheaper than buying a gift for each and every one of my cousins / uncles / aunts when there are over 50 of us).

Mine is a 54 year old uncle who lives in New Canaan, CT. He is mostly retired, volunteers for the Fire Department, likes to smoke cigars/pot (shhh... his kids don't know), participates and wins in a good number of golf tournaments, watch football, and pretty much be an older guy who hasn't lost his edge..

Anybody have some ideas for what to get him? Price limit is under $100.

Ideas?

Buy him a box of $40 cigars, and pack $60 worth of pot into the box. Simple! Gets 2 habits with 1 stone, and comes in at $100!

I have to be able to travel with this present... going to spend it in Seattle.
Cigars might be a bit taboo... this is expected to be my grandfather's last Christmas because his lung cancer hasn't gone away after surgery / radiation treatment.

I also don't want to have him be like, oh look what Santa left me under the Christmas Tree!

I'd go the golf route.. a new pair of golf shoes or a new bag, a nice fitted cap for while he's out in the sun all day.. that sort of thing.

Really hard to buy for someone when you don't know them, I always try to make gifts really personal.

Find something adventurous in his area he can do. Sky diving, rafting, hot air balloon trip....something along those lines.

FTW

you should be able to find plenty of samplers, etc. for under 100. a decent box of good cigars is around 100, so you could just go that route also

http://www.cigar.com/cigars/viewcigar.asp?brand=3

these are my favorite brand, especially if he likes weed, they are made by some young guys who use high end tobacco and infuse them with herbs, etc, so they smell and taste really good/unusual

good luck with that

Guys in their 50's are hard to buy for. They already have everything they need. Like I said, keep your eye on woot.com for another Zune blowout. You can't beat a 30GB media player for less than $100.

He already has one. He plays the hell out of the Tiger Woods series (he still can't beat my -12 handicap though!)

I think I'm going to get him the Planet Earth DVD set.

I just need to find out if he has the HD player for his 360.
