PS3 going on sale anytime soon?
I've done some research and have my heart set on the 80gig PS3. I can swing $500 np but I'll be pissed if I get it and it goes on sale soon after. Anyone in the know? Thanks a bunch

Re: PS3 going on sale anytime soon?
No. You basically explained why in your post. It would really shock me if it did, but I don't see it happening, especially since this is the one time of the year when the price won't matter AS much.
Be careful about the different versions, though. If you want that backwards compatibility with PS2 games, you are best off buying the 60 gig system. You can always upgrade the HD later. If that isn't important to you, just buy the 399 dollar 40 gig system. (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=020285)
Feel free to PM me with any questions. =)
P.S.
I cannot vouch for other companies but GameStop has a "gift givers guarantee" right now and any new system you buy can be returned until January 15th as long as it is unopened. So if it does drop, return it and rebuy it.

You sir, are a plethora of knowledge. I appreciate it. I was actually planning on buying from Gamestop seeing as I'll have to ditch my PS2 Slim anyway. I wonder how much they'd give me for it. I only paid $99 for it as a second owner and it's in great condition. Also, I hadn't seen the price differ from anywhere else and I'd rather spend my money there than at Walmart.
So ok, the 40gig is $100 cheaper than the 80. I figure for the extra 100 bucks its worth it. I also have a PSP that will work with it. What I'm wondering is what good is an 80 gig anyway? I don't think I plan on using it all for music and downloading crap. I'll get Spideyman 3 for blueray and forfeit the 5 free blueray dvds or Motor Storm? Can I always buy more gigs and add em later if I need it? Not sure how that works.
My friends husband made a chart comparing all the systems. I'll try to bring it home from work and type it up here sometime.

Re: PS3 going on sale anytime soon?
You still get the 5 free blu-ray movies with the 40 gig system. Your slim will trade in for about 30-35 bucks store credit, I believe. Not much, so if you know of someone who would buy it for more, sell it to them. (Or donate it to charity and claim 120 bucks off your taxes lol!)
Since you have a PS2, though, are you not planning on playing those games anymore? If not, trade those in too. =) Remember-the 40 gig lacks the PS2 support.
USB ports: 80GB unit has 4, 40GB unit has 2.
Power consumption: 80GB unit draws 50 per cent more juice.
Noise: the 80GB isn't very noisy to begin with, but the 40GB unit is still more quiet.
Flash card reader-not in 40 gig system but in 60 and 80 gig systems.
Yes, the hard drive can always be upgraded in the future btw.

Hmmmmm you have some good points there. Will the 60 gig play PS2 games? I don't have many but then again it'd be nice to keep them and play on the new system instead of forking out $50 per game.

The difference between the versions is the 60 Gig is hardware backwards compatible, and the 80 gig is Software backwards compatible. So the 60 gig is going to do a better job, but both can play older PS2 games.
I'd suggest waiting and getting a killer Black Friday deal. My guess is you'll be able to pick up one 50 to 100 dollars off retail, easily.

You might have a hard time finding the 60 gig systems new. I know they're hard to find out here, anyways. Maybe not so much in more populated areas. (The 60 was the best for backwards compatibility.)
Sony only makes the 40 and 80 systems now.

Re: PS3 going on sale anytime soon?
We bought our PS3 today. We couldnt find the 60gig AT ALL. We got the 80gig since we have games we still want to play from PS2.
You get 5 free movies, they arent that spectacular a selection though. I want *maybe* 2 of the offered 12 or so.
We went back and forth quite a bit on PS3 and Xbox. We went with PS3 slightly more for the better BluRay selection and sorta for the exclusive titles. We'll still end up getting the XBox later, sometime next year, but I wanted GH now, so we bought a console.
Good luck.

Oh I saw a game I'd like! Sing Star 80's! Looks like fun. I don't sing that well but I like to try.

If the competition gets too unruly, just sit back a bit and hum-perfect score lol
