Cat People

Postby Diekan » Thu Nov 15, 2007 5:05 pm

current GF has a cat.

cat is throwing up EVERY time it eats. it doesn't act sick - in fact it runs around plays like it always does.

but...

every time it eats... about an hour later it throws the food back up. she has tried three different brands of food - same effect.

anyone?

no hair in the food so it doesnt look like hair balls.

Get the New England Patriots brand of cat food. It's the only undefeated brand of cat food. If they end up losing a few times switch to Green Bay Packers cat food.

Give the cat just a little bit of food. If it pukes that up, get it to the vet to check for worms and such. If it tolerates the small amount of food, then give it a bit more. Some cats just like to scarf and barf when given too much food.

what kind of food is the cat eating? you said you've tried 3 different brands, but what 3? there are vast differences in brands - if you're staying with the same old friskies and whiskas, that could very easily cause the problem. they're the equivalent of mcdonalds for cats - low quality, cheap price.

they make specific formulas for cats with sensitive stomachs and healthy digestion formulas now as well. if the cat isn't *actually* sick (worms and such that were mentioned) its possible its just one of those things where you need to spend a little more on the cat.

my cat, for instance, used to have this *terrible* skin problem - the vet gave us prescriptions and shots and all sorts of stuff - for 2 years or so it persisted, and she'd scratch herself raw and have scabs all over, it was just terrible for her. it turned out spending just a little extra money on a rice formula type food cleared it up in about a week and after her final scabs were gone they never came back.

if you've tried iams and science diet though, that's all moot.

updated info.

my mistake - she said she tried two brands, but three types.

meow mix seafood, meow mix regular and kitnkabootle.

he likes to lick anything with dust on it. i'm no vet, but i am a biologist. typically when an animal licks or eats something out of the ordinary of their regular diet it indicates they are lacking something in their diet - but dust? i cant see any nutritional value in dust... but anyway.

she has small hands and feeds him twice a day - once in the morning and once at night - one handful each time.

he JUST started doing this not to long ago - maybe a couple of weeks ago. i guess he's always been eating meow mix... so i dont know why the sudden scarf and barf.

dunno... i am a dog person - but this cat is her baby so it's not going anywhere.

i will tell her to try iams.

Iams is expensive but cats really love it. I have an over eater cat, and I have three cats and I have no idea what to do about it. My budget is limited right now, it's the end of the year. I don't know if I can go to the vet but I know I want to help her get healthier but I do worry. I mean, she is huge, she vomits all over the place and she still runs around and chases other cats and then rolls around on the floor with her belly up.

I dont know. she's not even my cat. I've tried things though, feeding them separately, keeping the bowls full all the time, feeding them small amounts twice a day, monitoring their eating even..I'm not sure but they're pretty tense animals..I wonder how much bullying goes on between them.

I just remembered that when I had them on cat food with no by products they were pretty healthy. I can't find it anywhere other than a pet store which is pretty far and so I feed them what seems to be the healthiest within my budget which is the Indoor formula by Purina. It hasn't made my other two over weight...so wtf.

I did hear once that food with dye makes them sick..I don't know how true that is.

diek - those 2 brands are just like I mentioned, very cheap and lack nutrition, and for some animals they just can't live off of it. the sudden change of reaction could be just its digestive system giving up on trying to process it..eating unhealthy food as a human doesn't necessarily take it's toll right away either.

Purina one (not just any purina, has to be the one)isn't bad either for a middle of the road one - it's a bit more than those bargain foods but it's still cheaper than iams. we had to use that for a cat I had who got bad urinary tract infections.

also, with the higher end food they tend to eat less of it because it has more value to it and sustains better. in the end the price evens out.

Buy food from the Vet ... it's a bit more pricey from the food at the supermarkets, but way better. And if you really think about it, food that lasts for at least a month and only costs you $35 or so isn't really all that expensive. As Gyps mentioned Hills brand is very good - Vets will sell Prescription Diet, and have varieties for all sorts of issues, including digestion.

You wouldn't eat a happy meal everyday for yourself, so why would you want to feed your pet the same equivalent?

Diseased rodents have more nutrition than partially hydrogenated corn biproducts etc.

Not to mention they arent in the wild, if you own a pet you owe it to them to care for them or you shouldn't bother having a pet. If they lived in the wild they'd risk getting eaten by a savage animal, that doesn't justify an owner hitting the damn thing.

Theyre just so....boring. Ah well, to each his own.

Mindia, you should get one and keep it in your truck. This old guy that used to do my heavy hauling had some kind of little ass lap dog that he always hauled with. It would sit on the dash the whole time. He and the dog died though a couple years ago. Lost his brakes on Bolt Mountain with a 30 ton miner and over the mountainside he went~

Fuck that noise--cats fucking ROCK...Two huge reasons for a lazy motherfucker like me----

1) No bathing--yeah that's right these fuckers bathe themselves

2) No walking. Sure, gotta empty the box every few days, but it beats the SHIT out of cleaning up dogshit/dogpiss or having to walk the motherfuckers in the rain/snow/cold/heat/whatever while they decide to go.

Give me a cat any day.
