I paid $45 for my 360 and $179 for the add on with 8 free movies.

I bought the 360 add on because I already had a 360 and wanted a cheap way to play HD movies. At the time, it was the cheapest way for me to get a high def player. The add on is no longer anywhere NEAR the best and cheapest way to get in to HD so why the fuck do people keep bringing it up?

The 360 is a better console for the money than the PS3.

A standalone HD-DVD player is a better value than the PS3.

Either way, if you buy the PS3, you are losing but it's two separate battles.

The $200 standalone is a far better deal if you don't give a flying fuck about the "console" aspect of the PS3 and are only interested in something to watch HD movies on. It's indisputable so why continue disputing it? $500>$200 which means $300 less in my pocket making it a far worse "deal". In fact, I could buy 2 HD-DVD players (one for the bedroom or maybe a gift for dear old mom), get 20 "free" movies and still have $100 left over to buy a Nintendo DS to play games on for the same price as your Piece o' Shit 3.

If I want a new DVD player I am not going to pay $500 fuckin dollars for one. Neither Blu-Ray or HD-DVD are worth a $500 disc player upgrade and if you paid anywhere near that much for them, you are a fool. $100 or $200 is an acceptable amount of money to pay for the benefits of either format unless you have more money than you know what to do with and most people do not.

I never said or even implied that my 360 deal was "par". I said the only reason I bought the HD-DVD add on was because I already owned a 360 that I paid next to nothing for and I wanted to get in to HD for the smallest investment. If you just want a HD-DVD player, DO NOT BUY THE 360 AND THE ADD ON. It's a waste of money if you are not interested in the console. If you already own the 360 and don't mind using it to watch movies, the add on is not a bad deal and I expect the price to drop below $100 soon making it a super cheap entry.
