I think it's telling that you compare comedians to actual rightwing pundits. I guess they hold the same credibility.

Although I won't be shedding any tears, I'm not sure her being a douchebag warrants her being stalked by psychos.

Thus was my sole point.

Maher's HBO political show and Air America's radio program disagree with your labeling of the people I put in my post above, since they are essentially identical in discourse of a polemic nature to Coulter, and are on the same format.

However, I don't expect you to be up to date with goings on in foreign countries you know little about.

Note that I did say that the guy standing near her house and yelling was wrong, and that the card was not inherently wrong, but should have been mailed rather than hand-delivered. It was in no way a threat, and as such is entirely legal under postal codes. I would think hate mail back to her is an entirely reasonable response to the hate she shrieks out to the world. I repeat, she's Goebbels in a blond wig. He used to have long rants and diatribes about "liberals" on radio shows too, you know...

It's a federal crime to deposit mailable matter without postage into a mailbox, so hopefully they can bust the scumbag that did this to her on that charge... unless of course the dipshit put a stamp on it and covered his tracks like a little pussy.

I dunno about it being a crime. If I go to mail a letter and forget to put a stamp on it, I don't have cops show up at my door and arresting me for "deposit mailable matter without postage into a mailbox", even though I've done exactly that. I just get the thing back in about 4-5 days with "Insufficient Postage" stamped on it in red ink.

There are most certainly laws against sending mail containing threats, but that card was not in any way threatening. (Unless you honestly believe the writer intends to start a nuclear war just to see if she DOES last as long as the cockroaches, in which case might I interest you in buying a lovely tinfoil hat?) So, ultimately, I think we can all agree that the proper action would have been to just mail the thing.

It is a law Arlos. I just read it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Sta ... al_Service Also, be sure to read it carefully because it's in there a couple times and in one of the references it just says something about taking mail out of somebody's mailbox or vandalizing the mailbox... just keep looking, it's in there.

Well, in reading that I saw that there's a law that only the post office is allowed to put mailable items into private mailboxes, but that seemed to be more geared at maintaining the postal monopoly and preventing mail delivery competition to appear, and to stop marketers from just dumping stuff in your mailbox without mailing it. (So instead every pizza store within 5 miles has to leave shit on my doorknob 87 times a week. I swear to fuck if I catch the guy putting it there, he and Mr Baseball Bat are going to have a conversation.... grrrr. but I digress. rofl)

Anyway, at best I suspect there's just a fine attached to it, I doubt highly you could get any real jail time for placing a non-threatening card into someone's mailbox. Taking mail OUT is another matter entirely, as would be placing something in that was damaging, harmful or threatening. But, by all accounts nothing was taken, and we are all, I assume, in agreement that the note was in no way physically damaging, harmful or threatening.

I am also not a public figure that spouts hate speech on radio, TV and in books. As a public figure, you abrogate some of your right to privacy. It's one of the prices of fame.

You DID seem to miss me saying that the guy shouldn't have been shouting near her house, and should have mailed the letter rather than putting it into her mailbox. So basically, I already disagreed with everything the guy did. What I do not disagree with, though, is turnabout being fair play, and if she's going to do her best Goebbels imitation, then it's only fair for some hate to get spewed back to her. It just should happen via LEGAL methods.
