I beg to differ. Performance, regardless of what the talent is, is performance, and doing it in one shot in front of a live audience, especially the kind of artful mixing these guys do with light and sound, more than qualifies.
They aren't just singing over a pre-recorded track like Ashlee retard Simpson.

If you go see many techno artists perform live, Daft Punk included it's not all prerecorded. My buddy Paul spends about a week before each gig creating all his sounds, sequences, samples, drum patterns, etc. He gets to the gig and sets up all the machines, gets them all synced and then creates all his songs "on the fly". After he's done, he erases everything so each show is completely unique. When he is making records, it's all laid out and multitracked for mastering but when he plays live, it's really live. No DAT, etc. You may not like the music but it's no different than a band jamming. Of course he doesn't have the lasers and costumes that Daft Punk has to take your attention away from 2 guys pushing buttons, sliders and twisting knobs but it's the same idea.

Before you complain that he's not a real musician, he also plays a guitar and piano very well and incorporates them in to his studio work as well.
