ya i was out doing home visits and listening to the live updates between stops

i got back to the office and shut the car off and kept listening

they came in with a new update, they had just identified the killer as an 18 year old boy from bellevue (near omaha)

i don't know why but that was the last straw, i absolutely broke down right there in the car

President Bush visited Omaha Wednesday but left an hour before the shooting, the AP reported

Actually, I don't think there's going to be anything happening with regards to gun control until the Supreme Court finishes rendering its decision on the DC gun control ordinances. Should happen in 2008 some time.

That said, personally, I think assault weaponry (which is what he had) should be put into a similar classification as automatic weaponry, and require special permits to own. There's no reason why you need a 20+ round clip for hunting, and huge clips like that are exactly how whackos like this guy are able to do so much damage, cause they can keep shooting for extended periods without need for reloading. I would be violently against any attempt to restrict hunting-class weapons though. I realize that's hair-splitting, but that's life.

Grow up and realize that a few rich Americans getting wasted in a fucking mall is a drop in a global bucket. If you think that is a tragedy worthy of breaking down in your car like a little bitch, you should see the world and witness something more worthy of that response.

Is the grief of the families of those slain any less real because they happen to live in America? If someone shot your mother in front of you, would your response be "Oh, no big deal, I'm in America and worse happens elsewhere"? Somehow, I think not.

Now, obviously that's a bit more extreme situation, but there's no shame in feeling impacted when a senseless tragedy impacts your immediate community, which is what happened for Brin because he LIVES there. Breaking down sobbing over the death of a neighbors canary, that would be excessive. Depression when people were murdered in cold blood at somewhere you've BEEN to, and you might possibly know people who were there... Hardly excessive.

Insensitivity is not manliness nor is it maturity, it's just insensitivity. You have no right whatsoever to judge his emotional reaction to events.

Does anyone realize that you can do more damage then almost any gun just by using some commonly available chemicals?

Heaven forbid someone have emotions when a mall near them is shot up.

It's easier for it to be nameless and faceless when it's not nearby.

That answer is ridiculous, Ever. Something tells me if this kid had to put together chemicals and realize what he was doing, he probably wouldn't have done it, unlike his picking up a gun and heading out the door for target practice. Likewise, when was the last chemical drive by, chemical carjacking, or chemical mall death?

Our fascination with guns and their cheap and quick availability is really sad in my mind. I guaranfuckintee I've had more exposure to guns than anyone here, also.

What i was referring to was the ease of creating an explosive from household chemicals. hell a trip to the speed shop and another to the plant store and you can make a very high powered explosive.
