gothic 3

Post by Drem »

has anybody else played this? i haven't really enjoyed an RPG since baldur's gate and then everquest ruined them for me but i like this one a lot, however, and would recommend it to anybody that hasn't heard of it. it's really vast and sometimes i get nostalgic like it were my first time through EQ. it's just really, really good and i have no idea why. and holy shit, the voice acting doesn't suck? feels unique. it's one of those games like morrowind (fuck oblivion) that leaves your wondering why it's not multiplayer

it's kind of a hog but not as bad as lost planet or anything. i'm running it with everything max but post processing depth of field (looks like the screenshot below) on a 2.5ghz, 2gb ram, geforce 8500 512mb and it's 60fps everywhere but cities. depth of field makes it unplayable unless i turn tons of shit down

I've heard a lot of good about the Gothic series but have yet to try it myself.

it's just another open-ended rpg. i never played 1 or 2 but it's a continuation of the nameless hero's story and battle against some fag named Xardas that i haven't got to kill yet

has a beautiful sense of topography though. never felt this immersed in a rpg before. i'm only lvl 20something but so far i haven't found a single thing to complain about except the shitty load times. it even has a hunting skill tree so you can learn to skin different types of animals and take their teeth, claws, horns, or whatever. it's fun. definitely a game that rewards free-roaming, unlike morrowind or diablo 2 where 80% of the shit you found was for the type of character you didn't build....

i'm starting to think foreign game companies are the way to go
