I just don't understand some people

Post by Tikker »

essentially, a native dude decides to walk across the reserve, in a -50 blizzard

dumb to start with

then you find out he's just in jeans and a t-shirt

then you find out he'd taken his kids with him, and they were just in t-shirts and diapers

and he left them behind...

the super crazy part of the whole thing is that this kinda stuff happens on reserves fairly commonly =\

god that's disgustingly stupid

what the hell is his justification for being that much of a dunce while sober?

Well that part isn't really true.

Alcoholism is a huge problem among natives here.

maybe not in ontario, but around here it's pretty common

it's not usually toddlers, more older teens, or young guys who wander out in the snow high/drunk and die. couple every single winter for as long as I can remember

Drunk people dying in a blizzard isn't news. Two toddlers dying is.

Addicts die here everyday. Who cares? :dunno: They're worthless and aren't even worth the few cents of internet time it took to type this thread out.

We won't even talk about the money we waste "treating" them.

We, as in taxpayers. I'm fairly sure I didn't get W2's back by accident. If you weren't such a burnt-out leftover you may have figured that one out yourself.

Let's hope the pathetic little offshoot spawn of yours fares better.

We had and currently have a big problem with Native Americans being alcoholics. It's a bit sad, especially since many of my relatives are Cheyenne.

Fortunately, many are doing better due to Casino's on their lands, and increased opportunities, finally.

It's still not a great setup.

My uncle is Native American, not sure which tribe and what not, but I know he had alcohol abuse problems earlier in life, and he finally quit drinking after my aunt nearly left him after he hit her when drunk. He talked with me about it once, about how everything changed for him when he drank, how he felt that it gave him power, and that was the addictive part of it. >_<

I'm 1/8th Cherokee. My great grandmother is pure blood Cherokee. Alcoholism is a serious concern for any native American. Genetics...

I'm sure your contribution to taxes isn't much different than a 16 year old's who works at Burger King. Either way, America thanks you for the 50 bucks listed in your w2.

You can't compare an unfortunate situation to a decision by an addict piece of shit.

you lack tact and understanding. brin's dad coulda just as easily been a piece of shit and it happens to be (thankfully) that he isn't. it's still a decision. your addict piece of shit is that to you because she's your ex. it's different when it's family. still addiction, still a decision, still unfortunate.

I lost tact and understanding when my uncle died of complications related to AIDS and left three children to fight for themselves. Their mother was still a heroin addict and couldn't care for them at all. She died not many years after. Between my immediate family and my grandmother we took them in. Two of them turned out fine and one is likely still a gangbanging nigger in Providence. His death would surely not harm anyone.

My hatred for addicts and the pain they bring by merely continuing to exist extends far beyond my ex-girlfriend/best friend for 12 years of my life.

My ex, my best friend, 3 other close friends, family, and the countless others I've lost to drugs only steeled my hatred for addicts.

I wouldn't shed a single tear if every single fucking one of them dropped dead tomorrow. The world would instantly improve by the "loss' of those worthless fucks. Stop wasting money on them. Issue them cyanide instead of methadone. You're fucking dumb enough to stick a needle into you? You deserve to die on the spot. Fuck you.

I apologize Brin. I didn't mean any disrespect to you and yours.

The fact your father overcame addiction and turned out great isn't something I hear often.

I have no room left in my life for faith in addicts, and I don't know if this will ever change.

To this day if I ever saw a number of people I haven't seen in 2+years I would punch them in the face for the pain they've caused. Fuck them and anyone who tries to defend their "unfortunate" position. They chose their path and they have to live with it.

with your attitude, you are nothing to them, either. I will never give up on someone, especially if it's my family. I know when to say when, though. you're angry, you lack compassion and it's really effecting the person you are. at some point harrison, you gotta look around yourself and make a decision not to help some people. sometimes, you have to fire them and walk away, throw up your hands on helping them, because they don't help themselves. but sometimes, you don't bail. you have to know when it's appropriate and when it's not.

it *is* too bad it's in your immediate family, etc..but have you ever thought of moving? surrounding yourself with some better folks in a new town with a new way? I am not gonna tell you what to do, and I'm not a therapist but I'm pretty smart and I know people, and I know addicts. I helped bring one back and I knew when to say when. you gotta know what you're gonna do but you can't enable people and you can't wish them death if they don't want to help themselves. you can be out of their life, you can lose contact with them...but mentally you can't bail on em. you gotta say to yourself, because you cared about them, "I hope you're okay soon." and walk away.

if you're not supporting them even in your mind, if you've given up or wish death upon them, you're no good to them, just as they are no good to you.

by the way-the man whose life I saved...he never thanked me and I just realized that in typing this out. doesn't change anything...he's alive and sober now.
