In house IM system for work.

Postby Eldred » Wed Feb 06, 2008 1:54 pm

Anyone use any specific in house Instant messenger service for work, one of the ones we are using at one of our clients firms is Jabber (specifically the Psi windows client) and I'm really not all that impressed with it.

we use a nortel product called uReach

it does IM, voice and video conferencing

it also does some cool shit with mailboxes

ie, I have a work line, my cell phone, and a voip client on my laptop

if someone dials my phone number, I can have it ring any of those 3 devices (or all 3) and have 1 unified mailbox

if i'm roaming the building with my laptop, I can answer it with that (or my cell)

I can set it up so that it only forwards my deskphone after X number of rings, or only during certain hours

almost no one uses the video conferencing, but call routing is just awesome, I really like it

(you can set it basically like IP routing, and bgp route maps. if caller A phones between 8 am and 10 am, forward to cell, if they phone after 3 pm, send straight to voice mail, etc etc)

very cool stuff, but I would assume hugely expensive for a smallish company

Were using Trixbox for our voip phone system witch can forward to our cell's or send voice mails to our email in box. really nice software completely free as well, although we have a bit of money in our hardware running it off a new server and got about 24 of the new Cisco IP Phones.

we look after somthing like 900,000 phones, so it's a bit of a larger installation

not much freeware stuff that handles that scope, heh

sametime is the reason we got the uReach stuff, heh

Sametime.

Very basic & only for when we don't feel like picking up the phone.
