was just thinking how jacked up it is that Fat Tuesday existed because people were so guilt-ridden to follow weeks of physical denial that they would gorge themselves and not only that but they had a two week party just to gorge before denying themselves.

just weird, because i don't think there is any real connection with people now, but just thinking of where it came from.

You want fasting, look at Ramadan. Middle eastern nations (desert, extreme heat, etc) and they don't eat OR drink anything from sunrise to sunset. Gotta be tough.

and yeah. real/hard core fasting is almost totally unknown to christians.

Actually I think some Holiness people really fast by the definition of the word.

A girl I went to school with was always in love with this guy who wouldn't give her the time of day or whatever. After we all graduated he fasted-for real-in order to decide about marrying her.

He did marry her. she has ;never cut her hair-they don't have tv etc...I was pretty happy for her when I heard the news.
