It's a Gateway but looks pretty solid for $600.

It says onboard video memory. I wonder if it has a PCI-X port.

Video: NVIDIA® GeForce® 8500GT
# 256MB onboard video memory
# DirectX® 10, BluRay/HD-DVD Capable
# VGA Port
# DVI-I with HDCP Port
# S-Video Port

If that is supposed to mean the graphics memory is "onboard" the actual card and not "onboard" the mobo I don't know what to think.

It means it's on the card board. It would be called shared if it was using main ram.

Buy a PS3 for 399. You'll get a better gaming system, and be able to watch Bluray movies and play online free.

Does this shit really need to bleed into other topics?

That particular Q6600 is most likely a B3 stepping which is older and has heat issues and other problems when compared to the newer G0 stepping (which is fantastic).

The 8500GT uses 128bit memory -- and has about half the raw power of a 7600GT (which was low-end two generations ago)

The other thing is:
# Power Supply: Voltage Required: AC 120/230 V
# Power provided: 400 Watt

That supply will bottleneck any video card upgrades unfortunately. I'm not sure if Gateway uses their own proprietary BTX or not anymore which could limit your supply options.
