Lemme know the day you actually have some money before you talk to me about it.

Know the value of money before you talk to anyone about wasting or not. Sure, I paid a lot for my timepiece. Money well spent. Understand too that I've never had to pay a speeding ticket, parking ticket, late bill fee, overdraft fee, atm fee, minute overage fee, roaming fee etc etc in the past 4 years if ever at all. I also haven't blown my money gambling on drugs or anything like that in the past 4 years and haven't blown it on cigs or alcohol on myself in the past 2. So imagine all the things people had to pay for no reason or for bad reasons and actually spending it on something that not only has a tangible value but a lifetime one. I can count how many times I've "wasted" money in the last 2 years on 1 finger, which was when I had to spend money on an insurance deductible to fix my car that someone rear ended while I was parked in a parking lot so really it's not even my fault.

You're still trying to justify shitting money out your ass on a fucking WATCH.

It's a watch, not a fucking "timepiece" you faggot. It sits on your wrist for no better reason than to tell you the time and date. You like to WASTE money on frivolous bullshit, that's fine. But don't try to act like you aren't fucking wasting money...

it's not a total waste. I rib Jay about his silly spending on things like white t-shirts that would've been better bought as hanes, but something that appreciates in value over time is never a waste if you have the money.. which he happens to have. cali is a much different place with different standards - if he greeted his clients with a 10 dollar watch and a 15 dollar shirt, he risks losing a big account for looking unprofessional. networking, man. sometimes you gotta spend big to make big.

Wasting money on frivilous bullshit is letting your bills get ahead of you and paying late fees. Paying 20 bucks for your card not to come up and have your money go to the dealer. Paying off that ticket because you were careless and got caught speeding by cops. A conscious decision to purchase something of value to yourself is not a waste. How much money did you spend on EQ? WoW? What do you still have to show for it? This watch will be in my family for a looong time. This watch will be under warranty by Rolex long after my death. You want tangible value? Think of how many watches the average guy goes through because he buys a Fossil every couple of years for the rest of his life. This is one watch that I'll have when I'm 80. Of course, I'm wasting my time on you Harrison because you don't know the value of money.

Now, did I need a watch? Hell no. I have my cell phone which tells time just fine. Even if I did need a watch do I need one that cost as much as this one did? Nope. I'll never ever need a Rolex. Did I want one? Hell yeah. I want one because of the quality of work put into every single thing Rolex ever puts out on the market. I want one because it looks great, it has history and I will be able to retain a bit of my own history when I pass it on. It's a symbol of success that I feel proud to look at and will be proud to show to my family in the future. Yeah, it cost a lot, but you know what, I could give you the money it cost to buy it and you'd probably blow it on booze, clothes that will last you a couple of years, bills (well, your parents bills since you're a mooch), and fast food. You can keep your opinion all you want Harrison, but it's pretty obvious where you're headed in life so I'll just take it with a grain of salt. You wanna say I wasted my money, ok I wasted it. I hope your grandkids enjoy the taco bell wrappers that you pass down to them as a remembrance of your legacy.

Lol more words to justify wasting money on something that tells time just as well as my armitron. (mine probably has more features to boot)

I paid a ton more for my Audi than I would have spent on a Geo Metro. Yet somehow, I don't consider myself a raving idiot for having bought something of greater worth, quality, etc. than a junk minicompact, just because it also has 4 wheels and an engine and would get me from point A to point B.

Buying a quality watch is the same thing, only not even as negative, because the car gets worn out and loses its value, the watch does not. I posted here before that I'm going to be getting a Rolex that originally belonged to my grandfather, and has been in my family for probably at least a half of a century. I don't consider my grandfather's largish investment to be anything resembling a waste either. He got something that was astoundingly well made, of the highest quality materials, and that is something he could wear proudly, even in the highest social and business circles he operated in, BECAUSE it was quality. And because he earned every cent he paid for it, and because it WAS something he could pass on through the family.

I'm not saying that it's something everyone should do, not at all. But to slam someone for the reasoned decision that the expense he paid for something would give him greater pleasure and utility than a myriad of other expenses is ludicrous. You slam someone who buys something like that when they CANNOT afford it, and have to abrogate responsibilities in order to do it. You don't want one, fine, don't buy one. Just don't be a jackass and insult someone who, once they had all their bills paid, chose to spend discretionary money on something they would enjoy, even if what they bought was expensive.

Being called pathetic for buying a Rolex by a drunk jackass who mooches off his mother. Yeah dude, grain of salt. It's obvious I've failed at life having > than your entire net worth on my wrist. Then again, a Seiko or Casio owner could claim that too. Have fun drowning in sub mediocrity for the rest of your life.

Like I said, everyone is different in what they want to spend their hard earned (well, lets just say earned) money on. For some its jewelry, for some its a vehicle, whatever. Who cares, its their money.

In my eyes, is Jay a dumbass because he bought a Rolex? Yes, he bought it to fit in with the rest of the yups up there. Does anyone but him care? No. Its his money, he can spend i thow he wants. All personal taste

And i hate to break this to you Tikker, they dont hardly any, if any at all, vehicles that will be worth anything in 10 years anymore. No cars of our time will be classic cars like the ole Mustangs and shit like that.

Only the ribbed full undershirts shirts for me thanks.
Unfortunately they discontinued them around here... and they were always in the $20+ range and girlfriends always take them and never return them. =(

and i am the worse person to try to argue watches with..... i am a watch fiend. i just can't justify blowing that money on a watch.

though, a Rolex and any other watch in the retail range of $3K+, if taken care of is certainly not going to be something that loses value, though, really, no one in their right mind is going to buy an old ass used watch from someone that would be more than a brand new one.

the investment argument is pretty bunk. unless you are blowing like at least $10K and you essentially never wear it because it will need to be in pristine condition, can it be resold much later.

the truth is, if you are buying a watch for it to gain value, you are getting much lower return than if you were to buy other types of commodities (gold for example)

People can spend their money on what ever they want, but I just don't see the need for expensive watches and jewelry. It's just seems to me like a way of artificially inflating your status with an accessory.

    ummmm. unfortuneately i do.

and i often look at high end watch web sites. none of the watches that have been mentioned can be sold for crap if they are marked up by regular use. they will hold some value, but not any differently than a car holds some value (and some more than others) if you keep it clean and in good condition.

eh? that was my whole point

you spent a huge chunk of coin on a nice truck that will be worth nothing in 10 years

if you spent that much money on a watch, it'd be worth at least the same amount 10 years from now, and quite possibly appreciated in value

      that's all~

I said blowing your money on frivolous bullshit is perfectly fine. God knows I do it as well. My computer and the shit I buy for it is a perfect example, to a lesser degree. At least my computer with the amount of money I spend on it actually increases performance and utility. That WATCH sitting on his wrist does less.

It changes his potential client's perceptions of him in a positive manner which in turn allows him to make more money when they become his clients.
When you don't work for hourly wage or even salary, but purely on commission and contracts, it is important to net every client you can or at least to try.

Actually Gold is constantly depreciating in value just very very slowly and the only reason to invest in it would be a recession or depression. From an investment standpoint, I could argue that my watch will appreciate in value blah blah, I didn't buy it for that. I bought it because it looks sick and its an important symbol to something I've accomplished in life.

I don't wear it every single day, but definately 3 - 4 times a week. I have a Tag as my day to day watch but since the Rolly is new, I'm wearing that more. You can say all you want about waste and whatnot, but I know I'll have this forever and that's why I have it. You can call someone stupid for buying something nice, but there's a reason Michael Jordan didn't drive a Civic and why Oprah doesn't live in a condo.

I don't think buying something you like is frivolous (sp?). Paying 15 a month for WoW or EQ? Not frivoulous. Buying a comp to play games? Paying for Cable TV? Getting rims? Not frivolous. Frivolous to me means wasting money on things that get you nothing. I'd rather spend 5k on a watch then spend 150 on a speeding ticket. I'd rather donate 70 bucks to this board then to drop 10 bucks and lose it.

Yeah, it helps with clients too. It's hard enough to get an old established businessman to put his trust in a 25 year old. It helps that he can see things on me that signify that I can do things right. It's 95% my work, 5% Rolex but I'll take what I can get.

Say what you want about it, but it was my decision and I'm happy as a clam about it. When you buy your next cars and they're nicer than what you need bare minimum, I think you'll feel the same way about it. That's the idea of luxury.

If you compare the price of oil to the price of gold it has remained constant. You cannot say the same for the dollar.

It is the dollar that has lost it's value. Not the gold.
