R/C boats and stuff
I'm thinking about picking up something the little guy and myself to play around with this summer while camping
anyone into this kinda stuff and have any suggestions?
I don't really want the gas powered kind (they seem too noisy) and I really don't care for something that goes like 30+ mph, probably too much for the little guy to handle
a pirate ship that could shoot stuff at geese would rule

I've done some RCing with airplanes and besides the extra noise i would definitely suggest gas powered. Not only do you get more power in your engine (power = speed of course) you get the quick refill time of simply opening the cap , refilling it, and going for round 2. As opposed to either buying a 2nd battery and having it charged or if you dont buy a 2nd battery you get about 20 minutes of good useage, maybe 45 if you get a top of the line lithium battery and then an hour wait or so to recharge, which might suck unless you have a pool in your back yard that you plan to use it on.

Hmm, if you were crafty enough, you might be able to rig some kind of radio controlled BB gun or something on the ship. hehe

Anything that shoots stuff at geese may find its way to the murky bottom before it does anything to the geese, you know those foul can be a bit mean and aggressive.
Having had the same initiative as you Tikker, with my own boys, I got a cheap two stick RC car from Target (or was it ToysR Us). I think it was like 30 bucks if that, ran it into the ground over the course of two years, got our monies worth to say the least.
Depending on the coordination level, you can get those RC's like a steering wheel or the two stick version.

Re: R/C boats and stuff
we've got little mini RC cars, but I want a boat!
Re: R/C boats and stuff
I hear you on the boat thing but for 30.00 you can get a cheap RC car, jump it off ramps, go through the dirt, etc, they are a lot of fun. I'm only pushing the car side because it has more oppertunity for use where the boat obviously requires a good bit of water

Re: R/C boats and stuff
I don't think you've actually read any of my posts
we've got cars already, and want the boats for when we go camping (lakes)

Re: R/C boats and stuff
I read them, but you mentioned "mini-rc" cars, what came to mind are those RC cars that are like 3" long or so, not 12-18" cars I was talking about.
Either way, I'm sure the boats will be cool, I doubt you'll get your moneys worth though, but this assumes you don't get that shooting pirate ship, a shot to the head of a goose would be priceless
. Bring a camera, that would be a great shot
.
As a side note, as a kid I had a couple RC boats, they both didn't last more than 1 summer because they both got wet and the sealer used didn't do much (these things are made in china you know). The other part that was a real drag was, two points really, 1) battery died and the boat was 50ft from shore, that sucked, 2) was when the boat got out of range and took some good fishing pole casting to get it back to shore
. Both my boats were cheap radio shack type "speed boats" not pirate ships. Cars are just more fun IMO
