Learning the guitar from scratch (especially as a 30 year old man) probably requires about a 100 times more hours than playing guitar hero from start to expert.

I'm not really interested, nor do I have the time to learn the fascinating intricacies of guitar scales, followed by the intro to "stairway to heaven" three months later if shown good enough progression.

Keep rocking though.

And the funny thing is, I have been to at least a dozen parties in the last year where someone inevitably breaks out guitar hero and I leave that night revered as a God. As opposed to if I whipped out my acoustic axe and played Tambourine Man, which would obviously be a lot cooler. So I guess the only people who hate guitar hero are guitar players, which is fine by me because if a guitar player is against guitar hero to the point of snubbing the game vocally, they're probably faggots anyway who don't realize they're talking about a game. Present company excluded of course!

Actually, I've never played regular guitar or Guitar Hero aside from backing bass for my friend... I don't see either one as being superior to the other, nor do I really care. I just saw a fallacy in comparing playing a guitar to being like flying a jet / joining the military.

i found learning both at the same time was great

guitar hero was great how helping to learn rhythem and timing for real guitar

real guitar helped a lot with the manual dexterity for GH

Obviously regular guitar is superior to guitar hero lol. I'm not debating that at all. I just don't understand why guitar players always have to pipe up about how "guitar hero players should just play real guitar".

And if you don't like guitar hero, you can at least respect the fact that kids are being turned on to cool music (i.e classic rock and metal) as opposed to 90% of the bullshit that comes out now.

I was at a party the other night and I watched a 12 year old black kid banging his head while playing Raining Blood on expert while is father stood next to him and sighed in disbelief.

GH has made him a real metal fan.. Slayer especially.
