Yep which is why I tend to stay far away from things like this.

i believe it was Voltaire that said "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

fascinating example of this concept in the video, imho. opinions about the Vietnam War aside, the veteran in the video believes that the US flag is a symbol of freedom-- and it is exactly that freedom that allows the student to pull this off. do the snooty bastards that hassle him articulate this eloquently? hell no. but just because they're idiots doesn't necessarily make them wrong.

i'm curious as to whether the student responsible came up with the idea as a way to rankle conservatives, or if it was more of an experiment in seeing how the general public reacted. to support the latter, i found it interesting that no one seemed bold enough to tread upon the flags, with the exception of a couple other students (the ones with the signs on their backs). and to be honest, any jackass that would wear pants like that one student was wearing should have his opinion thrown right out the window anyway.

more observations: why is it that patriotic songs always sound so retarded? god damnit, why are the only songs about loving one's country to be found in the lowest-common-denominator muck i like to refer to as Wal*Mart Country? furthermore, i would think that whoever made this video should have more important things to worry about than a healthy veteran being argued with at a college. how about iraq veterans receiving sub-standard health care at shitty VA hospitals? or for that matter, how about soldiers being sent to iraq for their second or third tour, or without adequate personal body armor? let alone the fuzzy justification for our involvement in iraq in the first place. if i were them, i'd be worrying less about what one retarded student does with plastic flags on a college campus and more about the fact that our kids are fat and uneducated and that our leadership is running us straight into the ground.

you want to give a shit about veterans? great, go find the homeless ones and take them home and give them a home-cooked meal.

Brin, I believe this fell under the context of so called "art". If it had been a study to see how many people would walk on them ect, I suspect the vet would have been told as much.. I don't know if that would make it better for some but for me it would. I agree on the music as I'm not a big fan of country. As far as other ways for the person to spend their time, you don't know that they don't do the things you've described.

I've always dealt with having a temper, I learned to control it at a young age, and rarely does it get the better of me so it would be very dependent on the situation, but a lot of what I saw bothered me. Most notably the way the veteran was treated, my words to them would have been neither kind, tactful nor dignified, and I suspect it would have escalated to my forced removal, as I'm not very good at shutting my mouth and staring through people like the vet did. The flags quite frankly were not real American Flags, only made to look like them... while I do find that offensive, I wouldn't have had the knee jerk reaction to pick them up, besides it generally takes two people to fold a flag properly.

Oh yea... and the urge to depants some of the younger crowd who wear their pants half way down their asses is hard to resist anyway... one standing around on an American Flag with some sign taped to his back might just be more then my twisted side could resist.

I think I read somewhere that the project in that article is not real.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,351608,00.html

Though that article is a touch confusing to me after just waking up. I see several areas where they talk about it being a work of fiction and then other parts where they talk as though she had gone through with it.

The university is claiming it's fake, she's claiming it's real.

It is very likely you are right, at least I'd like to think so. It's not even that she came up with the idea that unnerves me, obviously much worse is thought of and used in the capacity of entertainment in movies and books, but trying to pass it off as real just seems really fucked up to me.

“I hope it inspires some sort of discourse,”

This is the primary reason that i believe that the majority of "modern art" is a gigantic Zerg towards who is the most novel, as opposed to, who has spent their life developing a natural gift to paint/sculpt/photograph beautifally and/or has a natural talent or viewpoint....

there is no reason anyone should listen to this person who feels that what she is doing is art. art is not the act of garnering everyone's attention by the medium of the most outrageous/retarded/sick idea someone can think of...

im just saying.
Mindia is seriously the greatest troll that has ever lived.

    i agree with kramer

some of these kids should just go out into the mountains with a camera. guarantee they'd make better art than a goddamn cube made of blood and home-made VHS recordings of some idiot's self-induced miscarriages in her bathtub.

give me a break. this girl is a fucking retard
