Photoshop/GIMP coolguys

Postby Tikker » Thu May 01, 2008 11:53 pm

anyone here fairly into using these tools?

and no, not to make awesome harrison slag pics, but I mean to touch up legit family photos and stuff

the GF is big into geneology and stuff, and she's gotten a bunch of really old photos and slides and negatives, and we're attempting to digitize all of them for posterity

some of them just look shitty, and the extent of my l33t photoshop/gimp skills consists of playing with the histogram (which does a pretty good job actually)

are there any good tutorial sites out there for cleaning up pics?

your best friend for doing that is in photoshop in the adjusting contrast, brightness, levels, and color options.

i always start with those things and then move into filters such as sharpen and smart blur. after that i go in and touch up anything else by hand with burn/dodge, smudge, stamping, etc....

i don't know of any tutorial site for it. you can figure most of it out w/ trial and error and everything i listed above should be all you need for photo touchup.

PS don't use GIMP, it's exactly what it's called. gimp. it doesn't even compare to photoshop
