Oof, got hit by the layoff bug, huh? Thought this was that new job that you reached for and really wanted, and actually got? Sucks that it's gone. :(

I spoke too soon! Just got an offer for a 2 month contract that will pay the bills, NP. Man, temp agencies rule in times like these. I was only unemployed for a week.

Yeah, the company bit off more than they could chew with a giant, empty datacenter and they thought they could save some $$$ by getting rid of me I guess.

O shit bro, sorry to hear that :(.

Wish you well in finding something new.

EDIT
hopefully the temp company can find you a more permenant home !!

EDIT x2
Where I work we are about to go through another RIF (reduction in force), this will include one of the guys that works for me (I continue to lose sleep and weight because of it :( ), it is suppose to take place sometime over the next month or so. It is being done as a 15% shaving of costs for the region, yet it doesn't stop the cream of the company taking all sorts of first class air fair, off site meetings at resorts, etc etc.

I look at how companies rid themselves of talent in an effort to save money yet they do not stop the frivolous outright ridiculous spending on their own. Some of the meetings the cream has gone to are easily 500k, yet they still look to fire the worker bees to make up for it :(

Well, of course, you can't expect the upper class to actually reduce THEIR privileges, do you? Yeesh, the gall!

Seriously though, yeah, it's insane, but it's unfortunately not uncommon. Just look at the financial industry: some of those CEOs drove their companies into the ground, then they retire, and get 50+mil severance packages while they're in the midst of massive layoffs. Craziness.

Not to hijack your thread, but I just quit my job today :) I'll be starting classes 5/28 to go back to school to become a nurse. Will have to figure out some sort employment while going to school, but I needed to get out of here.

Yeah...Kahar just got off a jobless stint, too. Hope something permanent comes up for you soon, Toss.

Thx all!

They can keep the contract work coming at what they are paying these days! Who needs a full time job!!!? ;)

Good luck Maeya. I have a friend that's a nurse and she makes BANK. She works long weird hours sometimes but I would to for a 6 figure salary.

I wouldn't. You'd be shocked at how valuable normal living is. Having a favorite tv show, time for your friends, to walk the dog, shoot pool and not coming home feeling like you ran a marathon carrying Ruben Studdard on your back.

They merged his position with 2 other schools they own and put them all under 1 guy, who I predict will have a mental breakdown soon....1 person could barely handle 1 school let alone 3. And when I say 1 school I mean a K-12 facility with 4 buildings and well over 400 desktops not to mention all the laptops and other misc equipment.

He's now working for a college that's literally 2 miles from our house. With the gas prices it's ideal. He's got the same amount of end users but there's 2 guys to run the department so it's a lot less stress, so he's convinced he got the better deal.

Sounds like me except I'm going for hospitalist physician and following in the medical footsteps of my family. Finally. Good luck!

Hours are hardly an issue. Maybe in the beginning when you are RN it will be weird but after years go by your schedule will become steady. My mother's a CN in the ICU here at Sacred Heart and she's had the same schedule for 15 years now: work three days, one day off, work three days, get a week off. 12 hour days. I'd kill for a schedule like that.

I accepted a generous offer today at the place I've been contracting. Nice salary (10% more than I was making at my last job), flex hours, health and dental insurance and 25 days off a year to start! Woohoo!

    I officially start on Tuesday.
