Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?

Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
With my jeep and credit cards paid off, I'm tempted to blow some money on a PSP
anyone have much experience with them, and specifically, the homebrew side of things?

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
I might be able to help you out as I still use mine often. Anything specific you are wondering? I have it so I'm able to play just about any game on it including oldskool Atari, Nintendo, Sega, etc using emulators. Not sure what else you want yours to do.
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
well, mostly I want to be able to play any game for the PSP out there on it via memory stick
I'd like to get one for the sports titles, as they stink on the DS, but I'd like to be able to extensively demo them before buying (just like with the DS flashcarts)
is it pretty simple to convert the firmware to the custom stuff? I know it's more involved than with the DS

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
finally got all the items together tonight and got my psp onto custom firmware
it's a much slower, more tedious process than the DS, and I can't carry around a shit ton of games at once like the DS, but there's not as many PSP games I'd want regularly anyhow
so far so good
looking forward to tracking down an e-book reader, and having my LF-B20 show up

64 GB in your PSP
jeje, that'll be awesome. I'm actually pretty impressed with the PSP's multimedia capability
I also have my locationfree player going. it's essentially a slingbox, only difference is that it has a native client built into the PSP
it's pretty awesome
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
I've finally gotten around to figuring out how to convert my old PS1 games for the PSP
it's been nice to finally sit down and beat some of the games that I just lost track of
FF Tactics is finally finished, like 10 years after buying it
just converting FF7, and Tactics Ogre now

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
did you beat the deep dungeon in tactics? me and a friend still play that on our ps1s and we're trying to catch all the shit the lv 91-99 ninjas throw at you in Horror
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
nope just beat the main game, which is really all I cared about
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
Can you get some kind of a MOD for PSP like the M3 Simply for the DS? So you can DL all the games?
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
yup
technically you just flash the firmware on the psp
you really only need a pandora battery (10 bucks from dealextreme.com) and then a biggish memstick
4-8 gb is nice
here's a good writeup if you're thinking about getting a psp
read the whole thing, it's very good

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
Hmm, I'm wondering if I should trade my DS for a PSP. I have a PS3 so I'd get the whole network benefit and I'm getting tired of the same old games for the DS.
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
I think there's WAY more good games for the DS compared to the PSP
everyone talks about how awesome the PSP homebrew scene is, but really they mean emulation
if you really want to play handheld PS1, genesis, snes, nes, etc, then the PSP is a better emulator (well not nes, ds does that flawlessly)
overall I think the DS is a better machine, and has like triple the game library, and 532x the number of good games
I have both, and I really like both
the PSP is a really nice multimedia and gaming machine, and the DS is a great gaming machine with some multimedia thrown in
I dunno, depends on your cash situation I guess
I'd get both
(I'm actually disappointed I didn't have both ages ago)

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
Hmm, so maybe i'll just keep my DS and by a PSP. Of course...It'll take some convincing...
...I don't know how many more gaming systems I can by without catching shit.
/sigh I'm a pussy

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
yeah, I'd go check out the exclusives for the PSP before I bought one
I bought mine with the idea of playing certain sports games on it (since madden wasn't coming out for PC this year) but found that madden 08 on pc wtfpwns madden 09 on psp =\
that being said, I've played the shit out of it, I watch TV on it, listen to the radio, etc
it's a great device
bit bigger and clunkier than the DS, and feels a bit cheaper than the DS (by bit, i mean a lot cheaper)

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
Yeah I read that about the PSP Slim. It feels cheap and fragile.
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
yeah, I wasn't particularly impressed
that being said, the screen is absolutely spectacular, video looks really great on it

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
Check out PimpStreamer for the psp
if you've got a file server full of media, it'll let you stream everything to your psp
it actually really works pretty well. I'm pretty pleased
you don't have to convert anything, it transcodes everything on the fly for you

Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
So I got the PSP. I am converting video files and putting them on it. It's definitely better to watch movies on the PSP as opposed to the iPod video (old iPod video, not the iPod touch).
I don't think I am going to get the pandora battery. It's too confusing with all the firmware updates etc. There are not really that many good games for the PSP anyway. There are only a handful and I'd rather just buy them than deal with the headache. I just bought Vice City Stories for $20 and I downloaded Wipeout Pure from the Playstation Network via PS3.
I'll probably just get God of War and Liberty City stories and maybe Tiger and MLB the Show.

dude
putting custom firmware on is very simple
you just format your memcard a certain way
buy a $9 pandora battery
insert the memstick
then click the battery in
it boots into service mode
choose custom firmware, and 4 mins later you have a hacked psp
seriously

took me 10 minutes the first time I did it, and 4 mins each time after that (i've done it for a couple of friends now)
also, look into pimpstreamer
it'll transcode all your shit on the fly to play on the psp over wireless (local or internet)
it's like a software slingbox for your psp

You overestimate my computer ability.
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
I've already got the battery, so you'd just need to pay shipping back and forth, and it would be np
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
And then you just download games via torrent?
Re: Anyone have a PSP (and use it regularly) ?
yup
or you can convert some of your old ps1 games to play fairly easily
or if you're super paranoid, you can just rip the umd games yourself (borrow them from someone, or rent em from blockbuster or whatever)
it literally takes 1 minute or less to dump a game
there's not a huge number of psp exclusives that I cared about, but it was easy to track down the ones I wanted, and it works really well
