Forcing people to go to school doesn't do dick.

This is a ridiculous waste of resources that could be better spent on finding ways to make kids WANT to go to school.

His head isn't always up his ass ;)

I really think the whole go to high school and on to college as the only way to succeed is stupid

more kids should be identified as future tradesmen at grade7-8 and go onto apprenticeships

there's been way way too much emphasis on going to college as the only way to be successful

it's just retarded imo

people used to take pride in being cabinet maker, or a brick layer or whatever

and now for whatever reason, those jobs are seen as fall back position when you can't make it in university

just dumb culture and social standing bullshit

This thread gets my stamp of approval.

So far.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

I agree with Tikker too. I need a shower.

Some kids just aren't made for that atmosphere. I fucking LOATHED school. By all rights I should have been in fucking heaven, but I despised that system.

You'd think a huge nerd who loves to read, learn, compete, and was given free sports to play, would have a reason to want to get up in the morning and run off to school. Nope...

They REALLY need to cut the PC bullshit and segregate schools into different partitions with separate places for children with varying learning levels, abilities, and capacities. This cookie cutter shit now isn't working, at all.

I saw no point to doing what they wanted. I would get the same diploma as the kid next to me who can barely grasp simple geometry, spending 3 hours a day studying and still barely making a B+ average.

While here I am, having never studied a day in my life acing every test thrown at me. This is of course unless I didn't feel like taking a test with a lot of writing, which I admit was often. I'd simply tell the teacher as they handed it to me that I wasn't taking it. They had no problem with it because they gave up after a month or so in trying to force me to do anything. I despise busy-work to this day still. Give me a fucking purpose.

Despite this, my teachers absolutely loved me. Most of them were apologizing and really trying to help me, but they were just as trapped as I was.

Taking away every single one of my credits for my junior year for being out sick, barely able to get out of bed to go to the bathroom, and too poor to see a doctor. That was the last fucking straw. I had all A's, and it meant nothing. I would have had to repeat every single class. FUCK THAT (And having parents that wouldn't take me to the E.R. because they thought I was faking it didn't help.)

The whole system needs to be scrapped and redone from the ground up.

school really isn't for learning, it's for getting a stamped piece of paper that says "I can participate in a group atmosphere and retain enough of the knowledge thrown at me to pass arbitrary examinations". Aka - survive in a supervised job and do enough good work to "get by".

Some of the most knowledgeable people I know are college drop outs, who excel in their occupations just because they have that chip on their shoulder from people judging them for NOT having the diploma.

Of course these people also fall into the category of being the most annoying fucktards because they feel they have to know SOMETHING about EVERYTHING, and can't just let a conversation happen without trying to "one up" everything.

I'm learning to let shit like that go...lol

I did have that bad habit though, as you said, because of people thinking I am less of a person because of some fucking piece of paper they have that I do not. *twirls finger* Like a heroin addict is going to tell me I should get my diploma... :ugh:

it's all personal opinion and nobody actually likes going to class or likes "the system". you just have to realise that if you want certain careers, you have to go thru the motions and get a degree. most people won't put the effort in. i know i didn't the first three years, so i'm making up for it now

but really, a bunch of people without degrees talking shit about college. i'm so surprised :lope:

you should be impressed with anyone that earned a degree that moved on to a career. that takes a tremendous commitment and a lot of time, effort, and un-exciting nights

people with degrees in art, or philosophy, that work in different fields tho.... i'm not so impressed with

A college degree is completely overrated IMO. I got my degree, work in the field that I studied in college and can tell you the only thing I got out of college was a shit ton of drinking experience. Just about everything I learned in classes I had to again relearn in a non academic situation since what they actually showed in school had absolutely nothing to do with how things actually were in the real world. The majority of people I work with who have degrees all completely agree with that.

In general forcing people to attend school who would normally not be there is not helping that person or any other person who actually wants to be there. Forcing the school and teachers to focus their attention on the kids who are acting out rather then on those students that really are there to learn is the only thing this will accomplish. IMO if they want to skip school, let them. Most of what you learn in High School is a complete waste of time anyway.
