I never intended to imply you were. I was just saying that I could make a tool and say I got factual information from a legitimate site but put in any figures I wanted. Unless I released the code, no one would be any the wiser.

Actually, it should be easy to check. Just go to the tax website, and manually figure out various tax amounts for various situations. Then, go to the tool, and have it generate them. If your answers match, odds are the tool does what it says it does.

you should check out the taxpolicy.org website, though - all of the info is seriously there. there's lots of helpful side by side analysis of each plan and a breakdown of all of what each candidate's platform is on the taxes.

Obviously I post the stuff because I'm an Obama supporter, but even more than that it's because there's this faulty info everyone gets wrapped up in due to propaganda and I just hate that people seriously have no inkling of the facts. I won't pretend to know much about foreign policy and it's probably the least interesting info on politics, but aside from the war, I don't bother discussing it - that's what drives me crazy..people who have no idea about the specific topic but because some commercial told them so they preach it around as gospel.. so I was just sharing one of the tools I found that seems to line up with the taxpolicy site (it does, I swear, or I would've never posted), because the more info we have, the better

Of course you won't get everything you hear about from any candidate, regardless of party affiliation. It's never happened, and it never will.

I'll still vote based on the platform that represents more closely what I'm looking for in a president and for the country. I'm well aware that not everything is feasible, but I'd certainly rather vote for someone who has the potential to bring some of the same goals I personally look for to the surface rather than vote against my best interests just because some of the goals I'm hoping for might not get reached.

When we're talking voting records, though, I guarantee as far as this election goes, you'd get more "promises" fulfilled from Obama than McCain, because at least within this political season, McCain has completely changed who he was in order to pander to conservative votes, so he's either blatantly lied about his stances on things to get to the White House which certainly won't get you the platform he's representing now, or he's really gone far right, which his voting record throughout his history doesn't represent, at least until the last few years - so again, you're not going to get what you're looking for from McCain.

I would be interested to hear from McCain supporters which McCain they're voting for - this one, or the one of 2000? Honestly, if the one in 2000 comes back, I think the left would like him more than the right. (like I said, though, this seems an impossibility with the VP selection he made.) If this one hangs around, we have a scary 4 years ahead if he gets elected.

So, McCain supporters - I'm genuinely curious. Which McCain are you relating more to and which do you hope ends up in the White House - the one who was known for leaning quite a bit left, or the one who's currently running as far away from center as possible?

My whole point is that ALMOST ALL politicians promise the world to get elected. I would just like to see someone track those promises to give a clearer picture on just how much bullshit these guys try to shovel.
I could care less about McCain or Obama. They are cut from the same cloth and regardless of who gets elected, this country will just keep going down the toilet. The democrats took over congress two years ago promising changes. What are they waiting for? A democratic president so it looks better for their party?

Congress for the last 9-10 years has been stunningly and purposely ineffectual. No major reforms of any kind from both parties. Election cycles are beginning earlier and earlier it seems nowadays; and there's simply no time left to defer to mundane tasks like solving real problems.
