I'm disappointed...it's not the total trainwreck I'd hoped it'd be. :(

They both said they support same sex rights but not a new definition of marriage.

ok i get it--this post in the fark thread actually cleared it up pretty well:

I'm gonna pull a Palin and say I want to go back to the issue of gay marriage.

I'm all for Obama. And I'm very disappointed that neither he nor Biden will say they support gay marriage. But the answer that Biden gave (basically, that re-defining "marriage" to be inclusive of gays is a matter for the church, not the government) is the best answer he could give without alienating the moderates.

And, frankly, it IS a matter for the churches. I just don't think government should be in the business of deciding what "God thinks is good" -- and that's what "marriage" essentially is. It's a union between two specifically gendered people that is deemed appropriate by God.

If either Biden or Obama had come right out and said, "Yes, I'm all for gay marriage," I'd stand up and cheer...before realizing that they have probably just lost the election.

They both said they support people's right to cohabitate with whoever they want and for them to have all the privileges of a married couple but neither side were willing to change the definition of marriage from one man-one woman.

WTF, she was asked if there was ever a cause for the US to use nuclear weapons, and she rambled on about how we shouldn't let Iran get them, and then took off into left field about Afghanistan talking about how mentioning civilian casualties is taboo? ARGH

Debate I'd like to see is Dan Quayle vs Sarah Palin.

Well, Palin was the clear winner as far as debating skills go. Very impressive. Joe spoke well too, and he's kind of a likeable guy. The problem is... he's full of shit and made some pretty outlandish and ridiculous comments that he's going to pay for when the facts come out over the next few days. And his stance on the cause of global warming was completely laughable, and clearly goes against what the scientific community says. Great debate though. :)

That's exactly what Biden did. She did answer the questions quite clearly. He's the one who hemmed and hawed like a buffoon and always gave some ridiculous verbal toedance around the questions.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one, Mindia. Just look up a few posts at my reaction to one of her responses that I posted mid-debate. Hell, she even stated bluntly right at the beginning that she had no intention of answering the actual questions.

She did, I must admit, sound vastly superior to how she sounded in, well, any of her interviews. Then again, I must submit, a lobotomized version of Gomer Pyle would have sounded better than she did in all of her interviews. Nor would I say Biden did anything like a perfect job, as he dodged some of the questions as well, for sure. It's just nothing HE said made me want to tear my hair out and scream like a banshee, while she did SEVERAL times... heh.

From what I'm seeing, initial flash polls put Biden as the winner, but almost 85% saying Palin performed better than expected. Suppose we'll see how the polls turn out over the next 24 hours.

You're full of shit Mindia. It's a fucking sad state of affairs when we set the bar so low for a VP that republicans are excited that she didn't go out and make a complete idiot of herself.

She dodged at least 70% of the questions, openly refused to stay on topic, told the moderator straight up that she's going to answer the questions she wants and how she wants. She came across as an amateur. She was sarcastic, she was snide, she smirked like a smug little bitch, and actually winked AT the camera. She's an embarassment, and luckily McCain stands no chance at winning this election... the thought of her taking his spot when the old fucker falls dead in a few months is really scary.

The Retardlicans had their chance and got us in the fuckhole we are in right now. If you vote for a Republican this time around you probably just got done eating a handful of your own shit and need to be committed.

Well, I'll give credit where credit is due: Palin held her own.
Too bad it took damn near repeating verbatim what her in-podium teleprompter was stating in order to make it happen. At least she had answers this time and only ummmm'd like once (not saying there actually is one, but there might as well have been for all the soundbite drilling rehearsal I'm sure she went through to put on tonight's act... I almost saw the text in front of her eyes as she was trying to remember them and add "flair" as she was speaking them).
We almost had bingo, but she repeated too many of her key words.

Narrock: I don't know if you're deaf or blind or both, but a high level of fuckability does not a VP candidate make, and if you actually believe that horseshit coming out of her very well-scripted badly-spoken mouth, you need a serious reality check.
I want a woman in office, and I think it is VERY important that it happens sometime in the near future, but Palin is a slap in the face of every woman in this country.
Every fucking female in the US should be outraged that the GOP thought they would "dumb down" and get a female that could "talk on our level" with this hockey-mom, downhome, next-door-gal rhetoric, trying to sway their way to getting women's votes by trying to emphasize how "like us" she is.
It's not just sickening. It's downright despicable and degrading.

Brin: yep, caught that. She completely digressed with the redirection.

Needless to say, I am beyond pissed, but not at her.
I'm pissed at the teams of clueless, brainless people (moms in particular) falling for this abominable cutesy performance, liking Palin to some of their Mary Kay/Avon/Pampered Chef/Tupperware/etc clients, and despite hating McCain's guts, they think that Caribou Barbie will somehow "set things right" and keep the balance in check with a "woman's touch" ... *brain just fucking implodes*

As the one commentator put it "she didn't win by not losing."
Biden was outstanding IMHO. I think he might have just swung my vote to their favor.
